House is looking great, with only a few minor issues that we're tracking to get fixed. Although, I don't know if the wrong finish on the cabinets is really all that minor... Couple of pics here, with more on our blog. Oh, and btw - we're having a girl...!!! Gratz on having a girl Rups!! Wow. Very nice progress on the build. Week 18 and fixing complete and painting ready to start. I'm so jealous... Re: Building a Porter Davis Sandpiper - C'mon painters 46Mar 26, 2012 9:40 am Thats great news Rups, a little girl ! Everything is prepped now after he came by on Saturday... 2 weeks he reckons to get everything done. Then hopefully we can get everything fitted and installed! Would be nice, seeing we've paid for 90% of the contract price! Re: Building a Porter Davis Sandpiper - C'mon painters 48Apr 09, 2012 5:45 pm Frightening isn't it Rups?! Exciting now, not too long for you guys.....paint then tiles?? Building a Porter Davis Sandpiper - C'mon painters 49Apr 09, 2012 6:29 pm Yep... and all the electrical fit off. Oh, and plumbing, stone, splashbacks, showerscreens, handles, garage door and probably a stack of other things I can't think of somewhere in there too! Re: Building a Porter Davis Sandpiper - C'mon painters 50Apr 22, 2012 9:09 pm Well the painting and staining is now complete, and looking fantastic! There's a problem with the drainage / gutter over the portico which caused leakage over the last few months which never seemed to have been fixed properly. I think the painters found the problem during the week, because they stopped painting the areas around it. Seems like a whole part of the drainage system was not done, because there is a downpipe hole now cutout into the portico, which was always on the plans, but was never actually fitted. Anyway. Into more fit off this week, and hopefully tiles too! Re: Building a Porter Davis Sandpiper - Making it liveable 51Apr 29, 2012 7:57 pm Electrical now completed! Tiling about to start which puts us about 4-ish weeks from PCI. Blog updated... Building a Porter Davis Sandpiper - Countdown to PCI 53May 01, 2012 7:04 am Thanks Zinner... I don't know how you could put up with such extravagant delays in what seems like such a calm manner! I hope your house turns out exactly how you imagined it would (just a tad late)... I don't know how you could put up with such extravagant delays in what seems like such a calm manner! I hope your house turns out exactly how you imagined it would (just a tad late)... I just think to myself "What would Fonzie do" Aaayyyeee! My DW blames me for it being late. She says I'm way too nice and that's why we are getting taken advantage of. I'm dammed if I do and dammed if I don't is seems. Re: Building a Porter Davis Sandpiper - Countdown to PCI 55May 01, 2012 9:29 pm I don't think it's in PD's interest to delay things a second more than is necessary... but you do need to remain calm whilst building. It'll be ready soon, and the bs will be a distant memory... Are you getting an Independent Inspector through? Re: Building a Porter Davis Sandpiper - Countdown to PCI 56May 02, 2012 7:36 am Rups I don't think it's in PD's interest to delay things a second more than is necessary... but you do need to remain calm whilst building. It'll be ready soon, and the bs will be a distant memory... Are you getting an Independent Inspector through? Yep. I have had an independent inspector at both the frame and pre-plaster stages who picked up only minor issues. I forwarded both these reports to PD to give them a bit of a "heads up" or second pair of eyes on potential issues. Unfortunately, these items were not fully acted upon at the time and then caused issues and delays later. Basically, PD had trouble getting the tradies back in to fix the problems and it wasn't until they applied some "pressure" to these tradies that the issues were finally repaired. Of course, this whole process took time and prevented other parts of the build progressing. As they had already paid these tradies for the job, it was not in there best interest at the time to get another tradie in to fix them. The delay to the build for this was around 6-8 weeks for these issues (i.e. around christmas when my build basically didn't progress at all but I had just paid lockup). So I guess even with an independent inspector things can still get messed up in other areas. To PD's credit, they didn't sweep these issues "under the carpet" so to speak (i.e. progress the build just to get it done fast and get their money) and now my SS claims that my house is the straightest house he has ever built. PD knows I will be getting an independent inspector for PCI so lets hope they don't drop the ball and compromise any workmanship at the end of the build. I have waited this long so I am ready to wait a little longer to make sure everything is just right. Building a Porter Davis Sandpiper - Countdown to PCI 57May 09, 2012 4:06 pm PCI booked for 1 June, and handover on 8 June! We're fairly confident they'll hit the PCI date, but doubt handover will be a week later. As much as we want to get in the house, we're not under any major financial or time pressure, so will be making sure everything is just fine before we handover the final cheque. But exciting nonetheless... Tiles and grout are done, and the garage door is on. Plumbing fit off next, and splashbacks!! They grout, and it cracks within 6 weeks. Re: Building a Porter Davis Sandpiper - Countdown to PCI 59May 17, 2012 7:19 pm All the plumbing is now complete, and the house got cleaned on Wednesday. For completion, we just need the glass bits done - shower screens, mirrors and splashback. Then into fixing the NQR bits - Our independent inspector is booked for 30 May, so we can go through the report before PCI on 1 June... phew!
