Re: Who's building with Clarendon?? 9162Jul 06, 2015 8:18 am We went for a visit to Austral bricks on Saturday and really like the rosewood or blackberry bricks if we go dark and maybe the leisure if we go lighter. Anyone done/doing these? There were plenty of leisure brick homes to look at but only one rosewood anywhere near me..... Re: Who's building with Clarendon?? 9163Jul 06, 2015 8:40 am Yup. Wifi is convenient, but it's slow by comparison to wired. Wifi is also not as reliable, has limited range, gets choked up quickly with multiple devices and so on. Our plan is to have two wifi access points (the device that sends out the wifi signal and receives the wifi information from the devices). With the 8 data points, which is one in each bedroom and one in each of the main rooms (1 in each lounge and 1 in study), we can hook the wifi access point to any of them and use the ethernet ports on the wifi access point for wired devices at those locations. In short, get data points regardless of your desire to use wifi or wired. How did you know what to buy and what to plug in where? Edit: actually, looking closer it seems fairly straightforward. That red cable on the left going into the NBN modem, I assume it is the one coming through the wall? If not, where does it come from? If we only have 8 data points in the house, can I assume that I only need an 8 port Gigabit switch? Nope, no wiring guide. None of the ports were numbered. I had to persist with Zurcorp and get someone to come to my house and label the numbers. The red cable is the My Air3 data connection, so I can control the air-con via smart phone app. Don't forget you will need an extra port to connect your modem/router to for the internet connection As for what to buy, I only bought the switch myself. Rest was put in by NBN Co and TPG. I just found a spot for each of the items ! Really wanted a small-ish switch but 16 ports. Looking on Whirlpool led me to this slimline Netgear switch. Pricey than the rest, but hey, when space is at a premium, you pay a premium ! leese Why do you need data points?? Can't you just use wi-fi??? Building a Modified Madison 37. Cable >>>>> wi-fi always Re: Who's building with Clarendon?? 9168Jul 06, 2015 10:28 am @APS I dont see a phone cable in your Hub. Mine was done by Zurcorp and it was in my contract. If there was one in your contract, they should have put one in. Call them and get them to come back Re: Who's building with Clarendon?? 9169Jul 06, 2015 10:53 am When you say Zurcorp labelled them, does that mean you know where each cable goes to, for example, port 1 might be going to the master bedroom? I suppose it doesn't really make all that much difference unless there is a fault.. so definitely better knowing than not of course. Yeh.. so I'd need a switch with more ports than there are data points? And if you had 16 data points, you'd need to get a bigger switch? They didnt label them when they installed them I had to call the office and they admitted the ports should be labelled. So they sent someone out. That wasn't the only issue BTW they had to send someone out. Yeah, if you had 16 ports i the house, you'd need an extra one which connects to the router Re: Who's building with Clarendon?? 9171Jul 06, 2015 11:27 am Cool thanks. Seems like I am understanding. How have you found the experience of a smart wired house? Not just in terms of internet but in the ability to have a media server or even just connected pc somewhere and access the files from it?
