Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Who's building with Clarendon?? 12263Nov 24, 2015 3:23 pm There's someone near me who is a owner-builder and they had their house done in 8 weeks.. lol.. and it looks as good, at least on the outside, as all the others. They work for Eden Brae as an area manager, so no doubt they got first dibs on every contractor in the area. I never expected perfection but I do expect a house that has a "wow factor" when you walk in the door. I believe that's what we have. I walk around my house, mainly from the outside these days as it's at lockup stage, and I see all these little imperfections here and there.. nothing that would bother the average person, but because it's MY house and MY money that is being spent, those little bits and pieces stick out to me. I am realistic and can forgive some things, but other things, I wasn't going to allow. For example, there was a tile on our splashback that was laid with an edge sticking up about 2 or 3 mm more than it should.. and it caught my eye immediately.. "not good enough" I said to the SS, he made a note and said he'd get it replaced. Other things around the place weren't perfect but they didn't stand out or catch my eye.. It's like that knot in the floorboards that looked like a spider.. it catches the eye immediately.. it's not good enough. Of course there will be flaws here and there but they don't all catch the eye and are just all part of the uniqueness of the build. So no.. I don't expect perfection.. but I do expect an appropriate level of quality. Would they be doing paving for you too? Very keen to see how you go. We could certainly use contacts for fencing and landscaping, concreting in our case as we'd need the driveway done. Good luck! Definitely exciting times! Hi mrrrt, myself and my immediate neighbors (houses on Cocoparra and Tallaganda Streets) are using these guys to do fencing and retaining walls - http://www.localfence.com.au/ Well priced and happy with the job. Thanks njenner! Will contact them. I'm still in the frames stage but always good to have contacts. Thanks for sharing - much appreciated! We're the only lot who has frames down along Welford Circuit. I've had some big dramas with things they tried to get away with and I've kept it off the forum. I just had to keep saying the display homes not like this! The display home at Forestville is perfect! Paint job immaculate ? The other day the SS tried to convince me that a certain amount of bubbling in the gyprock is acceptable! I was shocked, I thought does he think I'm completely stupid? He also said to me "with all due respect, you're not a builder" when I pointed out the spider looking knot in the floorboards. I think this comment alone secured the fact that I will never give him 5 stars! I really can't wait to be done with this, I honestly wouldn't go through this again. Ok maybe not perfect, but as good as the display homes! Why shouldn't we expect our homes to be as good as the display homes?? After all that's what first roped us in to build with Clarendon!! I've had a real change of heart now that I've slept on it and I won't be accepting anything until it's right. I'm not even contacting my bank until I have another walk through! No such thing as perfect.......especially when its built by a company that does hundreds of homes a year or thousands of homes a year.............a normal build should take 6+ months......when you slap everything together quick...............quality goes in the bin. We haven't had anyone on site for 3 weeks except for one guy straightening the frame after our independent inspection. We will go over 6 months I think. We will see if they fix their other mistake as advised this week...
