As for the networking stuff.. yeh.. it's surprising that they don't offer some kind of service or advice for what you're supposed to do with the hub and smart wiring after it's installed.. sure, there's data points throughout the house, but how do you connect them? Sure there's TV points throughout the house, but how do you connect them? Here's the gigabit switch I am getting: It's slimline, no fan, can be mounted just about anywhere, including mounting it on a wall or under a desk etc Paddington 29 @ Blue Horizon Estate (Lot 105, Wattleridge Crescent, North Kellyville) Our Build Progress Blog: http://light487.wordpress.com/ Re: Who's building with Clarendon?? 12206Nov 20, 2015 8:18 pm Here's a post of Sydney-build's setup in the Hills Hub.. I got the same switch as he did. I've even ordered some coloured cat6 cables to connect it all in the same way he did: viewtopic.php?p=1390439#p1390439 Paddington 29 @ Blue Horizon Estate (Lot 105, Wattleridge Crescent, North Kellyville) Our Build Progress Blog: http://light487.wordpress.com/ Re: Who's building with Clarendon?? 12207Nov 20, 2015 8:22 pm light487 Yeh, that would annoy me too.. sure, there are knots in wood.. it's part and parcel of wood.. but that is a hideous knot. That piece should have been scrapped and not the good timber they binned. I must admit, I've never actually heard of a gigabit switch, I'll definitely have to get someone in. My computer died last week and I called my computer guy to see what new computer to get and he told me no one uses PC's anymore! I didn't even know that! I'm really getting behind with technology, lol. Re: Who's building with Clarendon?? 12208Nov 20, 2015 8:49 pm *looks at desktop PC* No-one uses PCs anymore?? WTF? That's crazy talk! Laptops are for mobility but nothing beats a desktop PC for a fixed location. If you're going to put it on a desk, in a single room and have no intention of moving it around the house, get a desktop PC.. that's what they are for. Laptop for moving around the house.. We own a desktop PC for the main PC and a laptop that gets used occasionally. For stepping outside the house, it's tablets and mobile phones. I work from home and I would HATE to do that permanently from a laptop! I have a pc for almost everything I do, and a tablet for when I'm out and about... Building modified Wentworth 33 with a detached granny flat http://nortonbuildingadventure.blogspot.com.au/ Re: Who's building with Clarendon?? 12210Nov 21, 2015 7:21 am Ok, glad I'm not the only one that loves a pc, obviously he was wrong about no one using them anymore. I've always been a pc user, I mostly use it for Photoshop and printing to a large format printer. I was thinking I wouldn't want to have to do what I do on a laptop. My boys both have Mac books and I have no idea how to use them! Macs so different! I think I'll go out and get another one. Probably today, lol Re: Who's building with Clarendon?? 12211Nov 21, 2015 1:01 pm I can't imagine not having a desktop PC. Craziness to think people don't use them. I mean to browse casually etc a tablet or laptop works but to get in and use photoshop or write docs or in my case work I need a desktop PC. My media centre is also a desktop PC. Only have one laptop which is a MacBook. Went for a visit to the house this morning. Fascia and gutters on top level are up. Pallets of tiles are ready for this week! Can't wait to see the white roof tiles lol Re: Who's building with Clarendon?? 12213Nov 21, 2015 4:16 pm Fiona_in_Av No idea what anyone's going on about in the above posts. ? I can see I'm going to have to get someone in to set the wifi up for me. On another note, I'm super happy that the flooring company have agreed to come back and fix a floorboard in the kitchen that looks pretty silly. The only blemish in all of the house is smack in the middle of the kitchen and looks like a squashed Huntsman spider! I am seriously not kidding, that's what I thought it was during walk through. I told them I couldn't and wouldn't live with it, and they thought I was being precious! However I know everyone that visits the house will point it out, plus I have to look at it everyday and it will annoy me. Also, In regards to the flooring under the stairs they only do what they think needs doing which is very little of the storage area. We said we wanted it all done, they said they have no more boards and we told them we kept enough that they had thrown in the rubbish heap! Solution solved! Make sure you keep everything! Here's a pic of the flooring in the kitchen, lol I seriously thought you were showing us a photo of a dead spider on your new floor.. thats a yuk floorboard. Re: Who's building with Clarendon?? 12214Nov 21, 2015 5:14 pm Kitchen cabinets installed on a Saturday! Most of the cladding has been done, SS Says stairs are about to be installed as well as the stone bench tops. I knew I wasn't crazy and being "precious". My SS told me I'm not a builder so I don't know what's acceptable! I told him well I have a design background so I do know what looks hideous and catches the eye! He also asked me to give him a 5 star review on a website. I told him that I absolutely love the house, it's been a long journey that's been hard at times however I'm happy to do the review if that floorboard goes! The guy at the flooring company that was supposed to do the whole job fell sick half way through and others completed it, he had assured me that any boards that caught the eye, too dark etc: would be discarded. Anyway, he's the person now coming back to fix this, it's a pitty because the rest of the house is just superb. I've been pouring over user manuals and network setup guides on how to setup the network. It's fairly straightforward but not as easy as simply plugging in the router to the NBN. There's a tiny amount of configuration that needs doing to get everything up and running. What type of router and ISP? If you can't find instructions to do it, whirlpool probably has all the info you need. The bits I am talking about is connecting the router to the switch, then the switch to the ports in the house, then connecting a second router in the back of the house in AP mode, ensuring that the switch's IP address and the second router's IP address is outside the range given by the DHCP and so on. I understand what and why to do these things but I've never had to, so I'm reading on the "how" hehe. It all seems very straightforward but I'm a little anxious Paddington 29 @ Blue Horizon Estate (Lot 105, Wattleridge Crescent, North Kellyville) Our Build Progress Blog: http://light487.wordpress.com/ the stair balustrades?
