Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 28, 2011 4:16 pm Does anyone have any experiences to share on the way builders insurance claims are handled, in particular who pays the excess (and how much) and if the GST component of goods is covered? We had an owner supplied item that was installed by the builder and destroyed through faulty installation. Because it was installed it is covered by builders insurance but we're being asked/told we have to cover the excess and that GST isn't covered - in other words we won't get back the cost of the item but the pre-GST cost less the excess, which may be $500 or may be $1000! This doesn't seem right to me but I don't know how it is supposed to work. Thanks.
