Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 26, 2011 10:40 am The cleaner was there yesterday and today the house isn't clean. Concrete in bedrooms (we are carpeting after handover) was vac'd & she wiped something down (I saw a bucket of water) And that is it??? Builders rubbish is moved. Are they meant to clean the house properly or just get rid of their stuff????? Re: Builders clean before handover 2May 26, 2011 11:12 am My friend owns a cleaning business - she told me they charge between $1000 and $2000 for a builders' clean - I sure hope that includes more than a vacuum and wipe down! That said our builder didn't clean ours at all - 20 months of plaster and sawdust all mine to look after - fun!!! Re: Builders clean before handover 3May 26, 2011 11:27 am I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but a builders clean is really basic Some do a better job than others, but guaranteed you'll have to wipe over all the shelving before moving anything in As if you don't have enough to do! Re: Builders clean before handover 4May 26, 2011 11:55 am Hi, It may be worth you checking out the Building Standards and Tolerances. If you look at section 18.09 it covers Cleaning and I have typed the content below: "Owners are entitled to expect that the building site and works are clean and tidy on completion. Where handover is delayed for any reason the owner must expect that dust may have settled on interior exposed surfaces. Building sites are defective if, upon handover, they are not clear of building debtris, Building works are defective where windows are not clean, floors are not swept, mopped or vacuumed as appropriate, tiles, sinks, basins, troughs, baths, etc are not cleaned and shelving, drawers and cupboards ready for use". Here is a link to the document in case you want to print it out or show it to your supervisor: http://www.buildingcommission.com.au/resources/documents/S+T_GUIDE_07.pdf Good luck. I emailed the SS asking if the cleaner will be back. Next door built with them and I am sure he said the place was spotless when they moved in Re: Builders clean before handover 6May 26, 2011 1:52 pm Our builders clean left our house spotless. All surfaces were wiped down, all floors vacuumed and mopped, windows cleaned, handles polished etc. I thought that was standard practice as that is also how our first builder did our house. We didn't have to clean anything when we moved in. Just wish it looked as clean now! Re: Builders clean before handover 7May 26, 2011 2:32 pm Our`s wasn`t too bad,the main thing is the tilers got in before the painters and our tiles are covered in little paint spots everywhere. Such a long slow process to clean them up,and forever finding new ones! Re: Builders clean before handover 8May 26, 2011 4:52 pm Ours had a clean yesterday I am a clean freak, and I can tell you, no mop has ever touched that floor. They have not swept properly, there are bits and pieced everywhere. Our SS, thank god for him, is going to fix it all up before the carpet gets laid. But honestly, they wouldn't get a cent of me, thats for sure. I can't believe they think it's ok, to expect payment when they have done nothing. I would love to go in with my mop, bucket, vac and give it a real clean. Sweeping is not on, you only sweep the dust and plaster all over the tiles. I think good cleaners are hard to come by, but if that was my job, I wouldn't leave until you could eat of the floor Re: Builders clean before handover 9May 26, 2011 5:37 pm deb17 Ours had a clean yesterday I am a clean freak, and I can tell you, no mop has ever touched that floor. Our tiles look like they have effloresence in them, the crystals rising to the top in the grout and leaving white powder will be watching this, we picked midnight grout to match the charcoal tiles, no way I am having white lines appearing in there.
