Re: Evaporative cooling - 3rd party or builder? 3May 25, 2011 12:26 pm In our case the builder was more expensive, so opted out. In doing so we ended up getting electrical and water pipe put on there for future installation. Our quote from the evap cooler place gave us a quote taking this into consideration and turned out to be about $600 cheaper. It would be good if you can get a couple of quotes and compare. Re: Evaporative cooling - 3rd party or builder? 5May 25, 2011 12:33 pm In my experience if it can be done post handover its always cheaper. Some will say you get longer warranty through the builder but have you tried getting a builder to do anything after handover?! Nope get it done by someone else, save the hassle and save the $$. Re: Evaporative cooling - 3rd party or builder? 6May 25, 2011 1:40 pm We didnt go thru our builder, got an outside quote $4100 for 8 pts and the builder wanted $5700. I pay for the unit at the same price his boss did and my DS installs for a roast lamb dinner I think you are better off doing it yourself. Just get the plumbing done in the roof by the builder, ours cost $235.00, it's better having that done by the builder so it's all ready to go, depending on the price. Re: Evaporative cooling - 3rd party or builder? 10May 25, 2011 10:17 pm We are getting the heating and cooling done after as the ones the builder supplied were not that great and for not too much more (around $400) we can get top of the range evap cooling and gas ducted heating.
