The SS wanted to know what we wanted to do as there is not enough space for the curved fretwork we wanted, and this fretwork has been a central part of the plan from the very first contact with the builder. We discussed this for about 20 minutes, until we realised that the posts had been installed upside down. The is a large square section to the top of each post to allow for the fretwork, and a smaller square section at the bottom. Our posts have been installed upside down so the small section is at the top. The SS seemed to think they would be able to flip the posts, however each post has been rebated for the bearer beam. I assume this will make each post about 300mm shorter, and I don't think we want to end up with a 300mm steel foot at the bottom of each post. Thoughts anyone. Re: Dream Home near Mildura with GJ Gardner 23Jun 10, 2011 6:16 pm wow love your cupboards are they 2pac,also what is colour Re: Dream Home near Mildura with GJ Gardner 24Jun 10, 2011 6:50 pm G'day pattycake4, Yes they are 2 pack, with a gloss finish and the colour is Taubmans Crystal White. The wall colour is going to be the same. Re: Dream Home near Mildura with GJ Gardner 26Jun 14, 2011 2:54 pm The cabinets look great and love the various handles. The builder should replace the posts - he put them up the wrong way - you don't want to compromise at this stage on what is an important feature - you'll always regret it. Re: Dream Home near Mildura with GJ Gardner 27Jun 30, 2011 6:25 pm G'day All,
Sorry, I've been a bit slack and have not posted an update for a while. We went up to Mt Buller for a few days during the week after the long weekend. The kids had a ball and picked sking up as if they were born to it (dad not so quickly, and noticing that the body does not recover quite as quickly as it used to!!). The builder ended up replacing the turned timber posts under the verandah out the front, so now there is enough room for the fretwork (see photos). The SS thought it might be funny to tell him that we had changed our minds and were going to render the vents anyway, I suggested that it might be prudent to use the phone to play that particular joke. The brikkie has done a really neat job, he knocked back about 20% of the original bricks as they had been chipped in transit. I believe the tension on the bands was not correct. This delayed things a bit but we would rather that than have a less than perfect job. Putting the posts in upside down was a costly exercise for the builder, as I believe they run at about $280.00 each and there are 11 posts. I can't believe it has been over a month since I last posted. The build is going well, in fact it effectively complete and we have handover next week. The builder wanted to be able to show prospective customers through the house. In return for us allowing them to do this they spread over a $1000.00 worth of loam around the house, and they are going to give us some money towards our moving costs. I have attached some photos I took a couple of weeks ago.
