You're doing it tough having to visit so infrequently with the kids on the train. I don't think I would survive! We are about 3 minutes away by car 15 minute walk if the weather was a bit more co-operative. Bet your DH will be excited to see so much progress while he is away. We have yet to meet our SS and its difficult to keep an eye on things being a 30/40 min drive from the house but we think we have been a bit lax on being ''Squeaky'' ( the squeaky wheel gets the most oil ) so DH has decided to not care too much about the petrol and get down there more often , meet up with the SS once a fortnight at least and hopefully get things going a bit more !!! Our landlords have started asking for a date of when we will be moving too Re: Building the family home - SA 59Aug 25, 2011 10:11 pm Hi Building SA Unfortunately until the bricks are laid, things do move slow. Your SS doesnt seem to be onto things quite as quickly as ours, or perhaps there is more building going on down south! But i must say things are travelling very slow for you guys I know what you mean about being 30 mins away - we are too. However becasue we lived there beforehand, our kids go to school close by, so i swing by every Mon, Wed and Fri on my way to pick them up, then i take hubby up on the weekend. We permanent carry our big capming lantern in the car so we can check things out in the dark if we happen to be in the area We dont meet with our SS regularly, in fact i havent seen him since before the electrician did the first fix. I either text him with my concerns or call him - this works well for him and us. After my text he either responds with a yes/no or if it requires more, he calls me. I certainly wouldnt call us squeaky, but i certainly keep a good eye on things and raise them as they come - figure its doing them and me a favour in the long run. Re: Building the family home - SA 60Aug 25, 2011 10:27 pm House is looking great BuildingSA! We're bricking at the moment too & the rain also held us up all last week I'm finding the bricking really slow. Although I get bored easily & I'm always ready to see the next stage I agree that it important to keep on top of your build, easy for me, I live on site lol. Our SS is really good but we have picked up of a few things along the way, today DH noticed they didn't make the man-hole as big as he requested, not a big deal but a lot easier to fix now before the gyprock goes up! Hopefully with all this lovely weather your build is making good progress.
