Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 19, 2011 2:05 pm Hi There
I've been a long time lurker on H1 and finally decided to take the plunge and start my own thread. My hubby and I are building a dual living home with my parents who will be retiring in 18 months. We have a 5 acre block in Moore Park Beach about 20 minutes out of Bundaberg, QLD. We are building with Bundy Homes who have been absolutely fantastic. We went to them with a very basic idea Our first thought was to try and build two seperate dwellings with a connecting breezeway but there was NO way we could get through council so in the end we will share an entryway, laundry and kitchen (don't worry we all get along extremely well and have lived together before). Obviously these are all in the middle of the house which is slightly odd but we couldn't really see anyway around that without impeding on one or the other. Our previous house settles in Port Hedland next month and the slab on this one should be down week ending the 11th June so I'm getting really excited. I've tried to attach the plan so I hope it has worked. Its not really clear so hope you guys can read it. Nice work on the plans. Councils seem to be like that from what I've heard (regarding seperate dwellings) but it could be a good way to encourage families to look after the older generation for longer before moving into a retirement village or nursing home (if not remove that option at all). Good social structure. And it does act well later on down the track for resale I reckon as simply guest area's or for older children. Next best thing to moving out. Re: Building a custom design dual living home with Bundy Hom 3Jul 22, 2011 1:11 am Congrats on your build start. How's the slab looking? Have you got your frame yet? Re: Building a custom design dual living home with Bundy Hom 4Jul 22, 2011 2:20 pm cheerupcharlie Congrats on your build start. How's the slab looking? Have you got your frame yet? Thanks cheerupcharlie! Its going great. Slab went down about four weeks ago and they have progressed really quickly. Frame and Roof trusses were on within two week and as of today we have a roof...yaay! It's all very exciting and if I get a chance tonight I'll post some photo's Re: Building a custom design dual living home with Bundy Hom 5Jul 22, 2011 8:33 pm Great to hear, it is very exciting. I guess you've picked all your colors and everything as well? Re: Building a custom design dual living home with Bundy Hom 6Jul 23, 2011 3:07 pm Thanks, all colours have been chosen with the exception of the internal wall colour. The outside is a combination of colorbond sheeting (back and sides are Dune) and the front a mixture of others including colorbond (Deep Ocean), Matrix cladding (Double Strength Dune) and Cement Sheeted Render (Not sure of colour yet but something to match the surf mist roof). It's been such a big job and I get exhausted just thinking about it. It doesn't help that my husband and parents have decided to make me project manager and just sit back and let me make the decisions...haha Anyway we will get there! Here's the latest photo of it that I took yesterday. Re: Building a custom design dual living home with Bundy Hom 8Aug 28, 2011 10:43 am Well we are slowly getting there with this build. All of the plumbing and electrical rough in has been completed, the roof is nearly finished and they are due to start the outside cladding when the rain stops. Wall insulation is going in on Monday and the gyprockers should be there on Wednesday. Feels like it is taking forever but I think they are probably making good time considering it is quite big. Here is the latest photo taken yesterday. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Everything is going relatively smoothly so lets hope it keeps going that way! It absolutely poured down here last night. We haven't had any today though so I'm just hoping that it will hold off or clear up until we are fully enclosed too....oh well just have to cross our fingers...I'll cross them for you too! Who are you building with and how's it been for you so far? Re: Building a custom design dual living home with Bundy Hom 12Sep 27, 2011 2:56 pm Well we seem to be getting there with this build. Thought I'd post some exterior and interior photos of the house so far. All gyprock and plaster has been completed today and waterproofing will be done on Friday. Carpenter is in doing the fixing and kitchen should be in next week with the tiling to start at the end of the week. It's all very exciting. Here's hoping for a before Xmas finish date! Dreamcometrue, its not raised and is the same height as all other rooms. Maybe its just the way I took the photo, or were you looking at the piece of steel sitting on the ground in the middle of the room?
