Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 05, 2015 12:10 pm Hi all, Myself and my partner have purchased an acre property and currently getting quotes to build. Just wondering who here has gone down the kit homes path and do you recommend it? did you save much on completion? any input would be valued Re: Kit homes vs conventional build? 2Apr 05, 2015 5:25 pm Hi and congratulations to your purchase We did have consider to go with a kit home but after we did our calculation, it wasn't worth it. It would cost us lot of time to organize everything by ourselves and not much $$$ savings either at the end. I think it might also depend on many factors... If you got plumber and electrician in the family, for example, and they are happy to do the work for free, then you are lucky one I also think that the prices for the kit homes are way overpriced. We are very happy we went with a builder. This is my opinion and experience. What kit home company have you considered? And do you want to do most of the work by yourself? I would be able to do most of the flooring as I run a flooring business and would also be able to get cousin in for concreting but thats about it. Seems like unless I could do most of the build myself its not financially worth the extra stress. We haven't selected a particular kit home company as yet but have received a few quotes from local builders and are just waiting on 1 more quote from Hotondo homes this coming week. Looking at building in 4 months so just trying to explore all options at this stage! Thank you so much everyone. This all makes a lot of sense. I guess when you talk to a builder who butters up everything to look very polished, you get to start believing… 7 17511 3 47413 Ask for references and speak to them.
