Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 16, 2011 1:15 pm We have just had our H Class slab poured last Thursday and today when we went to our block we have noticed all these cracks through the slab. My husband and i are worried about this, so thought i would post here first to see if this is normal cracking or something we should be concerned about. Any ideas? That crack is only about 2mm deep. You'll get more of those before it's finished drying. Relax. Re: Just Poured H Class Slab Cracks? 3May 16, 2011 10:32 pm wonder why its cracking like that after a few days ? did they keep it moist under black plastics? Re: Just Poured H Class Slab Cracks? 4May 16, 2011 10:36 pm plainlandhouse wonder why its cracking like that after a few days ? did they keep it moist under black plastics? No they didnt, it has just been left uncovered. I know you can get cracks from the shrinkage of the concrete when it dries.. we just didnt expect so many! Re: Just Poured H Class Slab Cracks? 6May 17, 2011 8:47 am Just wondering if you can tell us what kind of slab it was? IE Raft or Pod?? Where you are coming from is where you are going to... Re: Just Poured H Class Slab Cracks? 7May 17, 2011 9:44 am Onc, I'd say by the square pattern on the slab (different curing speeds) that it is a waffle. Re: Just Poured H Class Slab Cracks? 10May 26, 2011 9:32 am Since i last posted the cracks have gotten a lot worse. The main supervisor has said he cant get a structural engineer to look at it for 3 weeks and the frame is already going up today. We met our other supervisor yesterday and he said the cracks shouldnt be that bad and if they go all the way through then they will have to re-do the slab - but the frame is already being put up. The stress levels are rising! Re: Just Poured H Class Slab Cracks? 11May 26, 2011 9:54 am TaraD17 Since i last posted the cracks have gotten a lot worse. We met our other supervisor yesterday and he said the cracks shouldnt be that bad and if they go all the way through then they will have to re-do the slab - but the frame is already being put up. The stress levels are rising! How big are the cracks now? If they have gotten much bigger, I would be telling them to stop as they are wasting their time. If you have big structural cracks in the slab then there is no point putting up the frame (and increasing the stress on the slab) until it has been resolved. Re: Just Poured H Class Slab Cracks? 12May 26, 2011 10:18 am It is possible to fix the cracks with the frames up Where you are coming from is where you are going to... Re: Just Poured H Class Slab Cracks? 13May 26, 2011 5:31 pm They wouldnt stop. They have already put up the frame, but even the builders were saying hey should we be doing this with these cracks? But they got the go-ahead. Our supervisor says he is getting on to it but it is still stressful! He said they can just 'fill the cracks' with some type of filler. Re: Just Poured H Class Slab Cracks? 14May 26, 2011 8:31 pm There are special resins that have hi flow characteristics and 'glue' the crack sides together. Once a slab has cracked and the tension has been released (shrunk during cure) Epoxy injection is a fairly easy and painless way of making well a situation that doesn't have to be like it is. As mentioned many times...& above, curing a slab for 7 days minimum to prevent shrinkage cracks from rapid (DE)hydration is required on ALL engineered slabs...
