Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 08, 2011 12:31 pm I apologise that I've re-posted this from General, however I'm struggling to find many people that have experience with new sewerage connections. (Hopefully in the New Building forum there may be more people with specific experience). -- I'm after anyones advise or experience with regards to this. We are in the process of preparing to demolish an old house, re-scrape the block (side of a hill) and then build new - using the hill in a much more effective way. We've discovered the current sewerage connection is not to the street but rather to a pipe that runs across our side neighbours property. The problem is that in looking at the levels, after we cut and shape the block our new basement slab level will be below the current level of the connection. In talking with a council plumbing inspector his advise was contact Urban Utilities, and have a design and build done to provide a new connection to street (cap off the current connection via the neighbours) - as he said this gives the best result - good fall (our block rises up from the street level), avoids the neighbours, flexible with the new build etc (makes sense). What I am concerned about is understanding what I might be in for in doing this. The distance from the base of our block to the sewerage main is 12M (not that far) but Urban utilities would need to dig the road there - and there would be fees. I've tried to obtain some pricing guidance from them and council but no one will give any indication of ball park costs. Has anyone experienced this? ideas of what it cost? (no one will tell me, other than Qld Urban Utilities that suggest to request a design quote, pay for the design, have a design done, then at that point they'll also quote for the connection work itself - all taking about 3-4 weeks from design quote request to design and quote for new sewerage connect build. (we are wanting to sign with our builder now'ish - but this snag has been on pause). Ta for any input, advise or shared experiences. Mark Re: New Sewerage Connection 2May 08, 2011 1:04 pm Hi The design shouldn't be that complicated, it should be a 100mm pipe falling at about 1 in 40. then a drop shaft onto the sewer. I would have thought somewhere between $300-$400/m should cover the cost, say $5000 including fees The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get ! Re: New Sewerage Connection 3May 08, 2011 1:27 pm Hi Bashworth Ta for that. Would you think that would include road works (or can they trench side ways to avoid having to lift and re-instate the bitumen? I assume that Urban Utilities would take it to the boundary and then I engage a plumber to run the pipework down the front yard into the new connection point at our boundary? (sorry for the ignorance, I'm a learner!) TA Mark Re: New Sewerage Connection 4May 08, 2011 1:52 pm My figure assumes that they will dig up the road. They should provide you with a connection point inside the boundary. The connection between the house and the connection point should be by the builder. If there are a lot of issues with the connection which push the price up the alternative would be to look at a pressure sewerage pump system with the existing pipe. You should be able to get a unit installed for about $5,000. The disadvantage is ongoing maintenance and a fairly small power consumption. the following web site gives you some idea: www.pressuresewerservices.com.au The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get !
