So I'd jump at $750! Think of it this way, it will cost probably cost you more than that the first time you have to paint them if you go for zincalume. Colorbond may fade a little but you'll never have to paint it! tell me if i am wrong. they say that once zinc aluminium is painted, it does not need to be painted for 10 years or so. and when you paint them, it looks like new again. But with colorbond, it looks definetly better in the begining but it gets faded after some time and you can not even pain that. Is that ture or i am of wrong opinion. Re: gutters/fascia/downpipes - colorbond or zinc aluminium 8May 06, 2011 9:26 am zincalum HAS to be prepared correctly before painting. It is usually coated in a fine oil to protect it from rusting before being installed. This has to be removed correctly before painting. Since it is installed first and then painted, the fascia and gutter not exposed after installation (ie top of fascia and bottom of gutter) cannot be painted and is then a 'weakspot' for corrosion. We had zincalum on previous house. The original paint faded, went powdery (it was a very light colour anyway) and peeled after 4 years and because of the bad prep work, the bottom of some of the guttering rusted out. Repainting was a nightmare because it had to be stripped right back to bare metal and primed and painted correctly. Go colourbond.
