Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 30, 2011 9:27 pm We are building for the 2nd time now and I had been going through some build info on my computer and came across my old house photos. I thought I'd post on here because I have learnt you all love to see as many pictures as you can. We totally loved this house and even though it wasn't my dream house (mainly the style) but we did the best we could in the basic range choices we were given. We made good money on it and the build was quick and easy. It's a 3 bedroom, 2 living area and 2 bathroom house. What's the worst part of building? Is it when the house is finished and there's all the other jobs to do - driveway, landscaping, curtains, etc etc? For info on our build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43093 Built the McLaren by Dechellis - slab down 22 Feb - handover 30 Aug 2011 - and gardens finished 9 Dec 2012!! Re: Our First Home - Within Budget - Built 2005 3May 06, 2011 7:44 pm For me I think the worst part is the waiting before the build actually physically starts! Once you've moved in you're just so happy to be in there that all the jobs are just a part of it. I remember with the 1st house the waiting waiting waiting at the start for the banks etc... drove me nuts. Mind you we havn't had any of the scary dealings with builders like I've read on here for others who are building. We picked a great builder last time and we're feeling really optimistic about things this time. So far everything is going really smoothly. Quite stress free to be honest. Re: Our First Home - Within Budget - Built 2005 4May 23, 2011 11:38 pm Love all the pictures We are in the same stage as you were 5 years ago. The house that we're building is by far what our "dream home" is, but will do for the next couple of years!! btw, we have the same feature tiles as yours in our bathrooms Did you find them hard to clean? Re: Our First Home - Within Budget - Built 2005 5May 24, 2011 2:16 pm Nope I don't remember having any issues with them. We loved them though. Nice and earthy yet modern. I'm pretty sure we wouldn't be half as certain about what we wanted in this house if we hadn't done it before. Plus we made some money off the last one that helped pay for this one Such a great experience, building a house. That's true!! it's amazing how many little details about house building we found out through H1. But once u've been through building yourself, won't know most of the things!! We plan to rent out this house later on and build another one, thats why have gone with all the "safe" choices that will suit to everyone's needs (except the roof :S, ugh) Re: Our First Home - Within Budget - Built 2005 8May 25, 2011 9:28 am Yeah I hear you on the safe choices. That's what we tried to do too apart from the red tiles in the kitchen. That was the one thing that we thought could be either really fantastic or a killer. We loved them and luckily someone else loved them as they bought the house!! It was great to have them to tie in with other little red things here and there. Coming back to your old stomping grounds, huh? Renovations on a budget can be quite the journey. It's like giving your house a new lease on life.
