Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 27, 2011 7:35 pm We are having our Gyprock done this week. I want to put curtains once we move in and missus is overseas so she can order some cheap ones whilst she is there. I went to measure the height from top of window (where curtain rod) goes to floor but I am unsure how thick the tiles and the base etc. will be under it. We have standard ceramic tiles which would be probably 0.5-1 cm thick. Can anyone tell me how thick is the surface below the tiles and the slab so that I can get an idea of the finished floor height and allow me to accurately measure the required curtain length? ------------------------------------------------------- http://homeinkalina.blogspot.com Enjoying our new Concerto with Allworth Homes in Kalina, The Ponds Handover - 28/06/2011 Re: Height or thickness of tiles for future curtains 3Apr 28, 2011 10:56 am Thanks Lex. Yes I was missing the word screed. Is this mandatory or can tiles be laid directly on the slab too? ------------------------------------------------------- http://homeinkalina.blogspot.com Enjoying our new Concerto with Allworth Homes in Kalina, The Ponds Handover - 28/06/2011 Re: Height or thickness of tiles for future curtains 4Apr 28, 2011 11:20 am 3-5cm can easily be gained by using different hooks, so just order what the distance is now and you should be right my new build thread- Ben Trager https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=89826 my switch build thread (2011) https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=36569 Re: Height or thickness of tiles for future curtains 5Apr 28, 2011 11:33 am ^ that is so true. For example, if you are using a header/gathering tape and hooks, you can always adjust the height of where you place the hooks and so on. Plus, if you don't want the curtains to be wiping the floor , it doesn't really matter if they are 3 to 6 cm (or so) above the finished flooring. Well, unless your windows start from the floor IMO. No experience in screed, sorry. Do they put the screed or not - it will depend on how level (for tiling) your concrete is (and the tiler's prefernces) - normally.
