Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 06, 2008 8:44 pm Hello, I am new here, been looking around for a while and gotten some great Information from you all, thank-you.
We are in the process of building our 1st new home, and are at the stage of choosing different options. Does anybody know/have recommendations on roofing. The options are either tiles or colorbond steel. Is one better than the other? Is one more energy efficient than the other? What are people's experiences with either? Thankyou in advance On the road to building our 1st home Re: roofing options 2Jan 06, 2008 10:53 pm you can check out this thread.... https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.p ... ight=roofs Re: roofing options 4Jan 08, 2008 7:58 am Hi Leece
I had a quick look at the other thread and though I would offer my 2 bobs. We have just started our building process and chose tiles. There was 2 reason one was cost colourbpound was about $3500 more with our builder. Secondly my hubby is a sparky so we will be doing any electrical over what came as standard. It will be alot easier to lift tiles to put in cables if needed rather that having to unscrew roof sheeting. Just thought it might be another thing to keep in mind Good Luck Anne Grandview 36 on Beautiful Bribie Site Start Dec 5th 2007 Projected completion May 12th 2008 NOPE Handover 24th June 2008 Moved in 11th July 2008 Wating on one final thing - Still - Oct 2009 Re: roofing options 5Jan 08, 2008 12:53 pm With our builder it was only an extra $1000 for colourbond. I prefer the look of tiles personally. My brother in law is a roof tiler and we asked same question. Here was his list.
Pros - More colours, streamlined look, sounds lovely when it rains. Cons - They can rust, have to be re-painted every 5-10 years, if part of the roof gets damaged you have to replace the whole panel (happened to my mum, very expensive). Jet Our first house had a CB red roof, hadnt been painted in over 20 yrs & it still looked great. It had possibly faded but as we hadn't seen the original it looked fine to us and the people we sold it to I plan on installing an undercover walkway (awning ??) from my carport to the back door as shown in sketch.
