Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 25, 2011 5:06 pm hi folks we are currently in the process of going through our variations with our builder. We have chosen to supply our own front doors (with builder to install). The builder doesn't want to install the doors until after handover. The builder has indicated that dummy doors would need to be used until our doors are installed, and that we would need to pay for these. Is it normal practice for the home owner to be charged for dummy doors? thanks Re: Dummy Doors - 2Apr 25, 2011 6:01 pm Hi Bijali, All the builders that I have worked for will only use temporary doors until after handover, and yes we would charge you for them. It is generally because there's too much possibility of your nice doors being damaged during construction, and anything owner supplied is not covered by the builders insurance so if there was damage or theft it would create too many issues. Re: Dummy Doors - 3Apr 25, 2011 6:02 pm Hi bijali Yes, my builder has put dummy doors on my build too however this is common for them as it helps them to complete lockup without ruining the new door. They either haven't charged us for this or they have included this into the standard house price as its not a separate item on the contract. I think its a good idea, would hate to see my new doors ruined during the rest of the build. Here are the the dummy doors we have. Re: Dummy Doors - 4Apr 25, 2011 6:27 pm Thank you for the quick replies! What type of doors are you putting in Starz? I'm still deciding (between two from Wrussel Williams) - these are non standard sizes, so I suspect the dummy doors will have to be also (hopefully the DD dont cost too much!)
