How do you snake proof? We have over an acre but I'm willing to spend $$$ to prevent them as much as I can.
Might have to try some of that Mortein stuff. We have so many spiders in this rental it's nuts!

My hubby does night shift and wants a pitch black room. It's not really playing to my 'light and airy' master suite dream though I'll just have to go as dark as I can that will be block out and make everything else white I think. Re: Re: Our custom design on 2acre - Some curtain pics 364Apr 05, 2012 6:44 pm Love those curtains in your master mclaren! It's warm and cosy looking, just as a bedroom should be. I think I might do something just like that. The shutters do have a nice light and airy feel, sort of more tropical resort, where as the curtains and pelmet have a more upmarket NY hotel feel. Both luxurious, just 2 very different looks. Ah decisions, decisions! Might have to try some of that Mortein stuff. We have so many spiders in this rental it's nuts! I'm not sure how you would really "snake proof" an area, all you can do is really make it as un-appealing as possible, keep grass low, don't leave water sitting around outside, don't have rubbish piled up. I've done some research into peahens & they are supposed to be great at keeping the snakes at bay, it seems they eat them! If you have a few of those wandering around the snakes stay away. The only problem is that for several months of the year they make an awful noise at all hours so if you have neighbours they aren't a good idea. I wanted them but we have houses around us thegilbeys Also, great tip about the pelmet Broom! My hubby does night shift and wants a pitch black room. A dark coloured curtain won't necessarily blockout light anymore than a light one. I think with a blockout lining & pelmet you can still achieve the light & airy look you are after. We had white, blockout curtains in our 1st house & they worked fantastic, I'm also a shiftworker & I had no trouble sleeping through the day with them closed Building our custom design "Dream Home" Follow my Build - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=46820 Contract Signed - 28/04/11 Siteworks Commenced - 20/06/11 Re: Re: Our custom design on 2acre - Some curtain pics 366Apr 05, 2012 9:29 pm boganswife Ewww, I am freaking out just thinking about the jumping spiders! As for the babies, that's like some horror movie scene. I pulled some mail out of the letterbox once and was walking back to the house, felt something tickle my hand, looked down and there was a GIANT huntsman creeping off the letters onto my hand! Needless to say I screamed like I was being murdered and got the attention of a few of our neighbours, so embarrassing! I swear they target the phobics! Also irrationally petrified of those big stick insects. There was a big one over the door frame at MIL's place and I refused to go out onto the deck while it was there. DH told me I was "being ridiculous" and that it hadn't moved in hours, so I walk out and whadya know... it jumps off onto me and gets tangled in my hair!! So I am running around screaming hysterically, "get it out, get it out!!" Ah, good times... You wouldn't think I grew up in the bush, would you? Bahahaha! I can picture you (Yes, I have a mental picture of what you look like ) running around with a stick insect in your hair. I'd react just the same though! Yuk! I hate huntsman spiders too, their legs sit all weird & creepy..I don't think I could handle one of those on my hand either Building our custom design "Dream Home" Follow my Build - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=46820 Contract Signed - 28/04/11 Siteworks Commenced - 20/06/11 Re: Our custom design on 2acre - Some curtain pics 367Apr 05, 2012 11:40 pm agree about the huntsman yuk! and I am quite tolerant of spiders, usually catch them and relocate (except redbacks and white tails) but I WOULD NOT like one walking up my arm I don't really know how to snake proof but was thinking those tin borderstrips staked into the ground around the fenceline to block any holes from the hills, might be able to find cheaper tin at disposals or scrap metal stores. I might enquire with snake catchers; they may have some ideas. https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43937&start=0 Bought a block in Golden Grove - Jan 2011 Finally finished our design, Mar 2012, *yay* Signed with ADH council consent June 12 Re: Our custom design on 2acre - Some curtain pics 368Jun 21, 2012 3:09 pm It's been a while between posts! Can't believe we have been living here 6 months now, time flies when your having fun as they say Not much happening at the moment, trying to rebuild our savings before splashing out anymore. We had solar panels installed recently but still waiting on Etsa to connect the meter DH brought himself a post hole digger so we have started putting up fences & gates, just farm fencing with timber posts & star droppers. We finally got our pics back from the builder, they were taken a while ago now, nothing much has changed though, few pics on the wall etc. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ http://i1235.photobucket.com/albums/ff440/BroomJ/024.jpg http://i1235.photobucket.com/albums/ff440/BroomJ/027.jpg Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Sorry if I've doubled up on any pics! Gorgeous pics ... your home looks absolutely gobsmackingly wonderful ... I wish wish wish I had chosen those melted toffee tiles for our bathroom instead of the Coco Harmony brown ones we have which look decidedly blah! What are your wet area floor tiles are they the same as the wall tiles? You'd feel right at home at our place - we have the same doors, the same sinks, same taps For info on our build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43093 Built the McLaren by Dechellis - slab down 22 Feb - handover 30 Aug 2011 - and gardens finished 9 Dec 2012!! We'll call your melted chocolate which is just as delicious Our floor tiles are the same but they're 300x300 & walls are 300x600. Great minds eh? I love our sinks, we did get them from APBC which from memory is where you would have done your selections? Our builder uses Reece Plumbing but there was nothing there we liked. What was the colour of your floors again? I like that nice warm honey colour, we haven't decided whether to go timber or tiles yet. BTW love the look of the blue lounge suite too - looks like it would be cosy and comfortable https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43937&start=0 Bought a block in Golden Grove - Jan 2011 Finally finished our design, Mar 2012, *yay* Signed with ADH council consent June 12 Re: Our custom design on 2acre - Updated Pics 21/06/12 374Jun 21, 2012 9:31 pm Thanks DCT The coffered ceiling is cool, we are planning on putting all the wires & speakers in there once we set up the home theatre. We also have down lights with dimmers which I love using at night as I prefer only a small amount of light at night time. Our flooring is spotted gum, it has so much character & lots of different colours it ranges from honey, chocolates to red/pink. The timber has been great to live with, it already has lots of little scratches (kids & their cars etc) but because it is finished with tung oil it's just a matter of giving it another coat occasionaly & the scratches disappear. We want to do this soon, it can be walked on in only a few hours which is also very handy.
