Re: Our custom design on 2acre - Updated Pics 21/06/12 382Jun 28, 2012 2:15 pm Mclaren Mmmm ... just got my daily fix of drooling over your house ..... Hahaha Annette, that's awesome, love it! Charnley Gorgeous Home Broom. I love those spotted gum floors. Exactly what my hubby wants but I am a bit nervous about how it will stand up with our young kiddies. I love your colours they are lovely and warm, it looks very inviting. Thanks Charnley, we love the spotted gum. Our kids are 2yrs & 4yrs & then there's the labrador, the floors do have some minor scratches. We aren't too stressed as they are finished with tung oil so they can be given a quick coat at any stage & that hides the scratches. Our SS has the same floor & he said he does his about every 6mths & come up great. The spotted gum has a janka of 11 so they are very hard, we have a few minor dents but despite the kids constantly dropping toys they are doing well. We figure the kids are little so we let them push cars, toy prams etc which probably doesn't help but I don't want to get stressed over it, we do have a no shoes in the house rule though. Added bonus is they can be resanded down the track to look brand new! I too am drooling. Great photos, your house is gorgeous Broom! I remember seeing your selections and thinking how similar our colour palettes. Now I see the finished product I'm even more excited. I love your bathroom colours, we've gone for a very similar tile colour (ours are here) but couldn't stretch the budget for those amazing rectified porcelain tiles *swoon*. I'm now wondering too if we didn't perhaps go a little too light on our vanities, yours look so rich and delicious. I just knew too while I was swooning over your gorgeous floors that they'd be spotted gum - yum! We've gone for spotted gum too, I'm just totally drawn to it for some reason, never seen a floor I didn't LOVE. Congratulations Build thread: /viewtopic.php?f=31&t=49109 Blog: http://thelofthouse.wordpress.com/ Re: Our custom design on 2acre - Updated Pics 21/06/12 384Jun 29, 2012 7:22 pm Cheers Anise! I just had a read through your thread, I am super jealous of that loft you have That is going to be such a great space! Our colour selections are very similar aren't they!? I really liked your bathroom tiles & I think the feature tile will look great. I think the rich brown colours really add a sense of warmth. Our last house had lots of whites & it always felt really cold & uninviting to me which is why we went for lots of warm browns in this one. Spotted gum is just awesome, so much variation in the colours & I love looking at the different grains in the wood, it has so much character. I was so excited when we decided on the flooring, it was by far the most antipated part of our build. It's extremely warm and inviting. Indeed the loft is going to be awesome. Unfortunately for me I'll have to watch that incredible space turn into a man cave. But I have managed to salvage a tiny piece of it for myself, for my dream window seat. It's the variation I love so much with the spotted gum too - can't wait. What kind of a finish does yours have? Good to know the floors hold up ok with the kids. Our two are around the same age and between the dinky cars and thomas trains they are tough on floors. I do like the fact that you can sand wood floors and they come up like new, cant do that with chipped tiles. Also they always look stylish and I think they date less than tiles. We had a similar problem and were put on to these by an Oz distibutor and paid a heap more than this link. However we found they work as we have seen and heard of snakes reaching the limit of the range of these devices and not going past them. The link I have attached is from Ebay and there is lots of them. They will all probably work similar. certainly worth a try. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/2-x-Solar-Ul ... 19d26fe660 Have found they work quite well. Oh a window seat, that will be really special My DH has his shed for a man cave, he loves it! I love sending the kids in there with him Our flooring has tung oil, our builder explained to us that tung oil is softer so it is more easily scratched but it is also much easier to hide the scratches by just giving it another coat whenever you want. Polyurethane finish is much harder to scratch but when you do it's like scratching glass & you have to live with it. We're happy we went with tung oil although after 6mths you can already see the coating is less glossy in high traffic areas. We will need to give it a recoat soon I think. No worries Charnley, the floors have been great with kids, very soft for them to play on (& fall on!) I agree that they won't date, timber flooring is timeless Building our custom design "Dream Home" Follow my Build - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=46820 Contract Signed - 28/04/11 Siteworks Commenced - 20/06/11 Re: Re: Our custom design on 2acre - Updated Pics 21/06/12 392Jul 02, 2012 8:50 am delatite13 Re your snake problem. Thanks for the link, I've been wanting to try these out for a while & yes they are much cheaper than the ones I've seen advertised. DH is less convinced they will work, his dad's mate has a property & has a few scattered around near the house.
