Browse Forums Building A New House Re: BCJ - Baldivis, WA. Impressions Aspire. FOOTINGS DOWN! 21Jun 13, 2011 5:44 pm Hey BCJ! We have started moving into our place and yes it is 1.6 metre wide....sorry pregnant brain didn't explain that very well. Yesterday when we were both in the kitchen unpacking it was awesome we weren't in each others way and both could cook or make cups of tea without disturbing each other...I think another 2 people in our kitchen and you wouldn't notice it You guys will love it Re: BCJ - Baldivis, WA. Impressions Aspire. FOOTINGS DOWN! 22Jun 14, 2011 12:42 pm Thanks for the reassurance! I wish we were moving in..... Instead, the rain is most likely stopping any progress today. As far as I'm aware the brickies started yesterday, as the brickies hardware was sent out on Friday. Had a meeting with the senior supervisor. Seemed a nice enough guy, explained why we couldn't have the porch the height they originially specified, due to a drafting error in the roof line.... Not a great outcome, but I did get to vent my frustration and tell him that drafting errors are too common, and we're only just starting the build. To do list: Purchase sanitary fixtures in July, ready and waiting. Purchase external locks PRONTO so we don't hold up lock-up Purchase front doors in July, for similar reasons. Our brickwork is complete! I went to site on Monday 2 weeks ago, and they'd made good progress, however when we went last Sat/Sun, not much more had been done! Took the women-in-law (Aunties, Nanas, Cousins) down last weekend, and the father-in-law down today. At 2:00 pm on a Saturday, the brickies were hard at work! SIX of them! A big gust of wind came through last week, and knocked out the internal wall between our ensuite and kitchen So that'd explain a slight delay! You can see the pile of rubble in the photos, as well as the patch of wall that is obviously slightly newer. In regards to our house. Wow.... Its rather big!.... After seeing it all pieced together, our 3.1x3 study isn't too bad at all! Our living area is going to be very hard to fill.... Our bedroom isn't too outrageous, and the alfresco is going to be a comfy size! The only minor concern is the size/height of the kitchen window, as it has been left quite low in order to get the over-heads in.... Once the kitchen is in, I'm sure it'll be fine, but for now it is a little worrying! Anyway! For the photos! Most taken today, some from last weekend. I hope worksafe don't lurk around these forums, I'd hate to be the reason for someone getting their butt kicked, particularly because they were working so hard on a Saturday! The Roofies only took a week, too! All is done! Our water service (Pipes through roof/walls, mixer bodys in the walls etc) is going out to our plumber today, for him to fit on Monday. Our sinks/basins/tough have been called to the cabernit maker/s. I'm simply astounded how quickly it is going up. The last 3 weeks we've gone down (40 minute drive from home) to have a look on both Saturday AND Sunday. We're that excited! Thanks Nelly WA. Impressions. BRICKWORK! Question!!! 33May 06, 2012 11:56 am It's great to have a forum like this. I wish I had found out about it like at least 3 months ago and it would have saved me a lot of grief!!! Anyway - great pics you have there and great posts too. I am building too, with Impressions, in Southern River. We have just received an invoice for brickwork and we are concerned about the gaps between the bricks on the inside. We looked at other houses around us that are being built and none seem to have as big gaps as ours has and we are wondering if its a huge issue? The site supervisor assures us that it is a commonly raised question and that the gaps will be sealed by the plasterer. Can anyone help with advice please???? I have pics if what I'm saying doesn't make much sense! Re: WA. Impressions. BRICKWORK! Question!!! 34May 12, 2012 9:00 pm Adolf It's great to have a forum like this. Hi, we signed with impressions today after about 8 months of me (much to hubbys horra) thinking about little else and working on my comp which has taken it from a rectangle of a floor plan(my own) to our home. oh the fear and intrepidation. we know impressions are not best builder but it is a case of compromise. you get what u pay for and they gave the best price on the basic house, we up graded the specs to a level we found acceptable and a price that we could manage without foregoing the holidays, we want a life as well as a new home! the rep( a saint ) gave the most info on products and cost of upgrades we knew we were going to want, he was willing to work with us and honestly sales rep XIanX i think he has been fair. Its been hard finding others building with impressions and Its great that some have taken the time to post thoughts and photos. Looking forwad to watching your build Nelly and the bootleg jon Re: BCJ - Baldivis, WA. Impressions. BRICKWORK! (Many Photos 35May 27, 2012 11:37 pm We have just signed up with Impressions and believe we are getting good value. In regards to the gappy internal brickwork, this happened in my first build and I was concerned as well. The answer I got from an independent source is that it is actually better to have a rough, gappy surface so that the plaster has more surface area and places to fix into. Once the plaster goes on, the walls are completely smooth and you're none the wiser of how gappy the brickwork is beneath ... and I had no problems with the strength of walls or plastering once moved in. Impressions. BRICKWORK! (Many Photos!) 37May 28, 2012 12:02 am Yeah - thanks. One of my good mate who take building studies in high school made a similar comment when I took to view the house which calmed us heaps!!! We are fortunate to be buidling not far from we are currently living so pop in to have a look at least once every couple of days. They have just finished plastering - there are some bricks exposed due to the 'thinness' of the plaset - I guess they willl put another coat? We also were fortunate to have an honest and open house rep. in the initial stages which meant we upgraded at no surprises in terms of cost. We also do not want a mortgage that stretches us to the limit so Impressions fitted the bill. We have just signed off the roof progress claim so all going well, we hope to be moving in August. Re: BCJ - Baldivis, WA. Impressions. BRICKWORK! (Many Photos 38Jun 01, 2012 9:04 am Good morning, how has everyone found pre start, in the client file the choices are very limited? are the upgrades available in prestart? things still to be sorted would be vanity basins, and maybe kitchen cuboards? I would love to hear about the upgrades people have chosen and if you felt there was a good selection? Thanks Re: BCJ - Baldivis, WA. Impressions. BRICKWORK! (Many Photos!) 40Jun 01, 2012 9:31 am Gosh, my last post had quite a few grammar mistakes!!! I guess I was so excited to get a response to my post! We just signed off on the roof stage and there are things I wish we had selected differently or had known (I'm told you always have that feeling with your first build...). Pre-start for us wasn't good. We had to abandon the first attempt mid-way because we realised we had not agreed on quite a few things between us (missus n myself). We had got quite a lot of help and advice from the home consultant before the pre-start which was really handy but the lady at the pre-start wasn't too forth coming with ideas, suggestions or information. I have also now realised a couple of changes I had intended making e.g. position of power points, I never made them or I signed off on plans that didn't reflect the change I requested: no way of proving it now. I also wish I had asked them to make the BIR in the bedrooms wider. We feel we did well with the kitchen, that's where most of the upgrades are bench top, cupboards, stove, fridge recess and the tiling. An important thing is to note down your desired upgrades as you discuss them and think about them well before the pre-start and take the notes with you to the pre-start. Hope this helps. I am in the same situation, would you be able to give some insights in to this? I am in SA 8 17239 I wanted to get some thoughts on the quality of workmanship on the following brickwork? are there specific clauses in Australian Standards which relate… 0 4860 |
