Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 18, 2011 4:42 pm We are currently building a homestead type dwelling with verandahs and a carport the concrete footings to the steel posts are approx 1000mm in diameter the posts are positioned so that in any direction there is 400mm to the edge rendering it impossible to put the appropriate system under the downpipe without grinding out a channel, our builder has told us that its our responsibility for this,my question is,is this a standard and how do i go about this without compromising the integrity of the footing.as there is to be a pathway i dont wish to have half of this with pipework obstacles.hope this makes sense and look forward to a response. Re: storm water connecting problem 2Apr 18, 2011 6:03 pm A couple of questions: How deep is the concrete block? If its more than about 600mm you should be able to cut a slot without compromising the strength but its a lot of hard work. Have you a photo? The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get ! Re: storm water connecting problem 4Apr 20, 2011 10:10 pm An answer to your question. the footings are 500 mm deep straight down not a mushroom type,i tried grinding out a channel with a series of cuts with a 9inch grinder then went at it with a club hammer and brickies bolster not much luck. do you have a better idea, would a jack hammer be a better way or will that compromise the foundation. sorry cant seem to attach a photo. Re: storm water connecting problem 5Apr 21, 2011 5:07 pm Probably a small electric jack hammer should be OK to chisel out between saw cuts. The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get !
