The Amberlea is a great layout. It was also very important for us to have the kids' bedroom windows at the back of the house looking to the back, not to the neighbours at the sides! Especially when you're doing a knockdown rebuild, builders are crazy not to be flexible about placement of windows due to overlooking issues! I also love your list ~ "space for husband to hide away" + I can relate to having room for sewing. As I've had no room for sewing since our youngest was born (now 5 yo) + I can't wait to get my sewing area set up. It will be amazing. And "space for children to have computers that are not in their bedrooms", this is very big for us as well. I can also tell you that the laundry chute is getting *A LOT* of use at our house ~ though our small one had to have some serious talks with him about what was *allowed* to go down that chute!!! Congratulations on all your progress to date, I'll be watching with interest! _______________________________________________________________ We're a knockdown | rebuild ~ Melb SE burbs Building modified version of the Fairhaven Glenaire Homeone thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=28429 _______________________________________________________________ Re: Building Simonds Amberlea - Bricks 126Nov 07, 2011 8:20 am Hi edscl, looking good! Do you know the nearmap website? It's a bit like google maps but they update more often. They've just put up photos from a flyover on the 19th October, so you should be able to see your frame up online Re: Building Simonds Amberlea - Bricks 127Nov 07, 2011 8:21 am Hi edscl, looking good! I hadn't thought of having a different colour brick for the piers - did that cost extra? Bron Re: Building Simonds Amberlea - Bricks 131Nov 20, 2011 10:54 am the piers cost $130.00 in my contract is says provide feature brick to front pillars in lieu of standard Group 2 bricks. Now I feel I should of chosen a lighter brick, but I will make my complete mind up when it is finished. Much cheaper than stack stone or anything else, and I can always change my mind if I don't like it by rendering over it or stack stone it when I can afford it. hubby, kids and me all waiting for the Amberlea Site Cut 27 September 2011 https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=46637 http://www.dscml.com/ Building Simonds Amberlea - Scaffolding 132Nov 23, 2011 7:32 pm Scaffolding went up Monday and they finished it yesterday, it makes the house look huge as the scaffolding goes from one fence to another. Just wanting the roof to go on so we don't have any more lakes in the house. hubby, kids and me all waiting for the Amberlea Site Cut 27 September 2011 https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=46637 http://www.dscml.com/ Re: Building Simonds Amberlea - Scaffolding 133Nov 24, 2011 6:25 am I really liked the stack stone pillars in the display home but it's so expensive! We plan on growing a climbing hardenbergia up them anyway, so we just have standard brick. Re: Building Simonds Amberlea - Roof 137Nov 30, 2011 8:27 pm It only took 2 days and the roof over the house is finished. (not the garage) Just need the brickwork to go up, stop raining and hopefully I will get a dry house. Interesting to note that almost every week since the slab was poured it has rained, I normally love rain, but not at the moment.
