Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Nov 03, 2010 2:19 pm Hello everybody, I thought it was about time I joined the forum, after reading all the great articles and insight from everyone. We have purchased our first block of land and are hoping that we will be good to go around the start of 2011. We extended the outdoor room, ensuite and the portico and apart from that have left the plans very much the same. We really loved the layout of the home and felt it was very livable. We have done our colours and changes. We've changed sitting room to bedroom 5.The linen cupboard is a study alcove with a new linen cupboard opposite pantry.we've opened pantry up to be a walk through with sliding doors. Will have cupboards on one side shelves on the other. We also extended the outdoor area/dining/ensuite/garage area as well..Sounds like we may build nearly at the same time. What facade are you having???Have you done colours yet??? Re: * Santorini 26; First Home Owners; Victoria 3Nov 03, 2010 2:54 pm Hi, we built the Aspen (no longer available) and it is a very similar layout except we don't have a rumpus and we had to delete our outdoor room due to an easement. We did "upgrade" the ensuite and we have a butler's pantry which goes through to the garage door (imagine the linen and pantry swapped). We love the layout of the house. It is really practical - the only down side is not having a "study" but we have a multi-purpose family area (ours is where your dining is and vice versa) and the formal sitting room at the front is a bonus - with 2 kids in the house it is like a parent's retreat! We also added a door between the entry and the kitchen, and a sliding door from the kitchen to the back passage and there is not one day I regret having those doors. We also have a door on the entry end of the passage to the garage - it was already in our drawings, but it is great too cos it hides the shoes I hope your build goes well. Second Time 'Round Re: * Santorini 26; First Home Owners; Victoria 5Nov 03, 2010 3:05 pm We decided to go with the Kingston. Really loved the look of the timber windows and timber look garage door. Our colour selection is booked in for the start of December. We also changed the window from the rumpus to a sliding door into the outdoor room Re: * Santorini 26; First Home Owners; Victoria 6Dec 16, 2010 10:07 am Just an update we finished our color selection appointment with studio m and while we forgot the camera I was able to have a play around with the online tool to give you a bit of an idea. Also the next stage of land will go on sale in the new year and the agent has told me that the same sized block as ours (703m) will be sold $50,000 more than what we paid so that was a nice surprise. Re: * Santorini 26; First Home Owners; Victoria 11Jan 10, 2011 12:19 pm Just an update we received word that the site and soil survey has been completed! The results were quite pleasing and with the site cost allowance of $10,000 being more than enough M5tric0n have opted to go with a H Class Slab? (we were worried as we had heard that it could be as high as $25,000!!) Our contract is due to be issued on the 3rd of Feb and all going well we could be looking at a site start around the 15th of Feb!!! Fingers crossed that there are no hiccups!!!! Fingers crossed that there are no hiccups!!!! thats great news! what area are you building in? H class is very common, particularly in the west. are you doing your acutal contract appointment on the 03 Feb? Just a heads up - If your financing, it generally takes the banks around 4 weeks to release mortgage documents once they've received a copy of the contract. M will need a copy of these before they begin to build. They weren't very clear on this process with me Re: * Santorini 26; First Home Owners; Victoria 13Jan 12, 2011 2:01 pm We are building in the Macedon Rangers. At this stage contract appointment should be around the 9th of Feb. So fingers firmly crossed that we should be kicking off around the start of March For reference, this is the Austlii reference.
