Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 12, 2011 11:00 pm Hi all, In the process of building 2 new townhouses, side by side. The house that was on the land has recently been demolished and the land is now ready for the construction. The builder has asked us to choose our bricks and im having alot of difficulty finding the right brick from their range. I initially chose the Austral Elements Zinc, seemed perfect, as I wanted something dark. I couldnt find anything else but builder then told me there will be a huge variation from his standard range..ie he estimated the project will use 30,000 bricks so based on this the variation will be about $9000. The builder suggested I maybe use the Zinc for the front facade and then Homestead Tan for the rest of the project. Can anyone tell me if they have done or seen anything in ths configuration? SHould I just stick to one brick colour, ie just Homestead Tan as the other will be too expensive? Or can you suggest something else in a darker colour similar to Elements Zinc? If you have another brick as well, IMHO just too many things going on. Still not in. Don't ask!? Re: Building new townhouses - need help with bricks 4Apr 13, 2011 9:03 am wertmezer Are you going to live in one of them? Yes live in one and try to hold onto the second for investment but will all depend how I hold up financially throughtout the building process. Re: Building new townhouses - need help with bricks 5Apr 13, 2011 9:51 am Tough call then... If it was going to be sold/rented I wouldn't upgrade. bel I'd just stick with the same brick - Homestead Tan - throughout My reasoning - you have a colour for the roof, colour for the cladding, and then bricks. If you have another brick as well, IMHO just too many things going on. I think it might look odd if there are different bricks on the side, so I'd go with Bel! Re: Building new townhouses - need help with bricks 6Apr 13, 2011 10:23 am Thanks for your responses, Would anyone have any pics of a house with Austral Homestead Tan? The Austral site shows pictures but am sure they have gone thru the photoshop process. Don't ask!? Re: Building new townhouses - need help with bricks 9Apr 18, 2011 12:11 pm Well, after much consideration and toing and froing we decided to go with the Austral Elements Zinc brick. I hope we have made the right decision. We are now deciding the roof tile colour and the render colour. We have requested the front portico be changed to render rather than brick. Anyone got any suggestions of possible colour schemes to go with the Zinc bricks. Im thinking a different shade of colour for the portico than the render used for the first floor. Dont want anythging too dark as the bricks are dark enough. Re: Building new townhouses - need help with bricks 10Apr 18, 2011 4:44 pm Hi there, we are using victorian blue for ours (which is along the same lines - dark grey, but with a coolish blue tinge). We are sticking to cool greys with our render in reasonably light shades, as our fascia/gutters/tiles are all dark. Driveway will be light too. We are only at brick stage at the moment but hopefully it will all work out ok! Would you have examples? Re: Building new townhouses - need help with bricks 14Apr 19, 2011 4:19 pm Hi, We are using Element Zinc bricks for our new build. I am totally in love with them. We will have silver windows and probably render in Porters paint grey pepper and surfmist. I hope this will look OK. We will have silver windows and probably render in Porters paint grey pepper and surfmist. I hope this will look OK. Sounds like a good combination, especially with silver windows. Im terrible with colours but im thinking along the lines of black windows, grey/charcoal portico contrasting to the brickwork and a light colour for render upstairs....Just cant match up the colours Re: Building new townhouses - need help with bricks 16May 31, 2011 11:43 pm Finally work has started...
