Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 11, 2011 9:59 pm If you email your customer liason on Friday and then again today asking when your final plans would be done would you expect at least a reply to one of the emails? Obviously I've not had any reply and this really annoys me, and I'm gearing up to ring tomorrow and yell. Am I just unreasonable? my new build thread- Ben Trager https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=89826 my switch build thread (2011) https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=36569 What do you expect?? 2Apr 11, 2011 10:05 pm My motto in life is treat others how you expect to be treated. There may be a perfectly good reason why they haven't gotten back to you. It really has only been 24 working hours. Yes you may be anxious but yelling at someone you are going to have to liaise with over the coming months does not bode well for a happy time. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: What do you expect?? 3Apr 11, 2011 10:15 pm I agree - my motto will be - I will be firm but fair..... don't jump down their throat, as you will probably not get anywhere.... you can make your point but do it politely.... sometimes this works better than jumping up and down. I also plan to let them know right from the beginning that I would like (expect) an update each week, whether it be by text, phone or email. I would like to be informed regularly as it will save a lot of frustration on both sides if communication is kept open and regular. - I am probably dreaming that this will happen, but am going to do my damnedest to make it happen. Re: What do you expect?? 4Apr 11, 2011 10:17 pm Perhaps your liaison has emailed / called the architect and is waiting to hear back from them with an ETA before replying? Ring - yes, yell - no. And really think I should have had some response, even just 'I need to check with drafting ' or something. In general, most builders work on a "24hr turnaround" on enquiries and phone calls, so I do think that you should have a call back by tomorrow morning at the latest. When my clients call, I always call them back on the same day or first thing the next morning at the latest, but obviously not everyone works that way. If you haven't heard back from them by lunchtime, I would call and if you can't get a hold of your CL, perhaps see if there is someone more senior to speak to, but keep the phone call "calm" - perhaps try asking first if your CL is away sick or if there is a reason for the delay in returning your call. But... even if they are waiting to hear about something, they should still have called you to let you know that is the case. If there is no reason, your CL has something to answer for... Re: What do you expect?? 8Apr 11, 2011 10:34 pm Yell was the wrong word, but thanks everyone my new build thread- Ben Trager https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=89826 my switch build thread (2011) https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=36569 Re: What do you expect?? 9Apr 11, 2011 10:58 pm tinkster What do you expect?? The spanish inquisition.... always. I'll echo the previous sentiments, throughout the stages of our build we usually got a response within 24 hours, and more often than not it was in the form of a phone call rather than an email , our builder at least had an aversion to putting anything in writing unless specifically forced to do so. That said, Fridays to Mondays is always bad for catching up on email backlog, but as CA3105 mentioned probably worth calling the office and asking for them if they're available, treat them like a person rather than just a job monkey and ask whether they've had a chance to review your request. Chances are even if your sitting in a backlog, they should be able to find the email whilst your on the phone and give you some idea, even if its just to get a confirmation of when they should be able to give you an answer (assuming they're waiting on info to provide). I will have it to you tomorrow morning. The next afternoon it was "Well, we finish mid-day wednesday, so before then." Then it never came. They went back middle of Jan (4 weeks later) and I called. He said "yes, there have been some delays due to the closure of christmas." I said "Steve, be fair. You told me 2 weeks before Christmas that we would have it in a couple of days. Don't blame Christmas, I dont' want an excuse, I want my plans please." No raising of the voice, just stright down the line, completely reasonable. 2 days is nothing though. I'm in the industry too, and one person/quote can hold back a lot. This being said, after the second email you would expect at least an email saying "Please don't panic, be assured I'm working on it." viewtopic.php?f=31&t=46664 Building in Baldivis, Western Australia.
