Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 11, 2011 10:05 pm Hello Everyone, I needed some help from the experienced people out there… I am building Foxley 29 from Porter Davis. They have completed my frame last week. When I went around over the weekend I realised that they have missed out the eaves on the complete north side of the house. When I picked it up they said they will fix it by putting extension to that side & install the eaves. Now I am worried that it may not be strong enough as it is an extension. Also this being on the north side of the house I will be getting the solar water & electricity panels installed alter. Is adding an extension to put the eaves going to as strong as it being one piece? Cheers, Re: Adding extension to roof truss - as builder missed eaves 2Apr 12, 2011 12:09 am While I don't know too much about stud frame housing, in my mind (and opinion) it may even be stronger. Rather than having longer pieces of timber that can flex, you have galv bolts holding it in place, which should give a stiffer, more solid construction (in my mind / my version of logic ) viewtopic.php?f=31&t=46664 Building in Baldivis, Western Australia. Re: Adding extension to roof truss - as builder missed eaves 5Apr 12, 2011 9:12 am Thank you, I was not sure whether this was something that can be done; as everywhere I have seen the roof truss is a single strong timber. At least nice to know that this is an option & structurally it will not cause any issue Appreciate your help with this. Thank You, It's hard to comment as the photos area bit dark ( you might need a new 15 - just got one and wow ) Jokes aside, I can see one member that is cracked. I would find a… 2 2222 Update from me! Couldn't find the trimmer - not sure if there isn't one simply because the eave is so narrow. Went ahead with the spring toggles and it all worked out… 7 5879 |
