Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 08, 2011 10:42 pm Hi Everyone...thought it was time to share our build. A little background I guess to begin. I decided about 18 months or so ago that we were starting to outgrow our previous home. My husband and I built it over 12 years ago when we were just a young couple with a labrador, but a couple of kids, boat, caravan etc later I felt we needed more space. It took me a while to convince hubby on the idea as we both really loved our old home, however mission accomplished 12 months ago and we purchased 2.2 acres. We eventually listed our house for sale and after only 4 days on the market, the first people to look at it bought it, which was fantastic as real estate is very slow here at the moment. Settlement occurred nearly a month ago now and after taking the big brave steps of moving in with my parents while the build occurs we are underway. My brother in law is building the house for us and we are using the equity we have in the new block and another block of land we have to complete the build. There was no way I was going down the path of a construction loan...the bank needs to know everything straight up these days and it was just impossible for us to itemise everything they way they wanted. I'm having trouble with my scanner so I have no floor plan to share, but basically it's a plan we designed. We have built off the ground as wood floors were a must again for our new home and the design was made around wanting a skillion roof line. Basically from front to rear we have on the left side study, laundry, open dinning, kitchen, living and the side and rear decks and on the right are 2 kids bedrooms and play room, main bathroom, 4th bedroom with our bedroom and ensuite at the rear. The house will also have a separate garage with skillion roof to match to the side. Have I lot you all??? Anyway I can fill you in on more as we go, but I will attempt to upload a few pics now. We started Monday 28th March, so not quite 2 weeks ago. My brother in law is one awesome builder and has achieved so much in this time. My husband took this week off work and was able to help him. We put the shed on the block a few weeks earlier. There is a pic of our block Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The shed during construction - Dune and Jasper 9x9 with roller door in middle at back also. I'm still to take a pic of the shed finished Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The build begins Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Hope I've managed to get these photos to work. We still have many decisions to go. The outside of the building will be a combination of mainly w/tex boards, render and some flat fibro. Re: Chook and Lardy's Build 8Apr 15, 2011 11:26 am Thank you all. I haven't taken any pics yet for last couple of days but we know have some green paper on it...i think they refer to it as wrapping and capping. We might give my brother in law a break over Easter but we are very happy with the progress so far. Re: Chook and Lardy's Build 9Apr 15, 2011 11:29 am A quick question to anyone with an opinion. The area between the 2 rooves will be flat fibro with cover strips. We were trying to decide what to paint this area the other day. Do we paint it dune the same as roof or do we use one of the other colours of our house which is so far Jasper or ????? (maybe Ironstone). Would like to hear your opinions
Re: Chook and Lardy's Build - Laminex Confusion!!!!! 11Jun 13, 2011 10:45 am Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Been a while since I've posted some pics of our progress. Our house is a combination of render, boards and flat fibro with cover strips. Our colour are Dune, Jasper and Ironstone on the outside. The outside is getting closer to being completed, plasters have been and now blackbutt timber floors are being laid. We are still tossing and throwing over laminates. We've done a few backflips and after originally going with pure mineralstone diamond gloss for our kitchen bench we are now considering the following....would love to here from anyone who has used these colous. Our paint will be Buff It probably half strength..... Kitchen - is a galley style with a walk in pantry off from one end. We are looking at Jerusalem Stone with an insert of Fossil under the breakfast bench side and fossil in the overhead cupboards, the lower cupboards in Moleskin and Moleskin doors into the pantry. The Moleskin and Buff It look very close. I wanted the cupboards and paint to blend. Probably a Stainless look kick. Main Bathrooom - preformed white top with Stipple Seal Powder Room - Full block of Stipple Seal (no cupboards) with a basin Ensuite - this is the next delema. We were originally going to use Stipple Seal in our ensuite (it goes with the tiles we are using in both the bathroom and the ensuite) but have since moved it into the main bathroom. I'd like to our ensuite to be a little bit different. We are unsure if we'll use a preformed top or not in here. Originally the plan was not too but now considering. I have only seen the sample in the laminex brochure, but don't mind the look of Ornamental Espresso. Has anyone used this? Also in the brochure I have, not sure if the most recent, it's in the Innovations range. Does this mean it's much dearer does anyone know? Anyway, would love your thoughts... Thank you so much everyone. This all makes a lot of sense. I guess when you talk to a builder who butters up everything to look very polished, you get to start believing… 7 70367 Looks like AllCastle Homes. The door frames and brick colour give it away to me at least. My last home was built by AllCastle and my current neighbour's is, they were good… 3 18550 |
