Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 08, 2011 9:34 pm I am building my first home and have chosen Jandson's Stellar design. I have made a few personal tweaks in the house but I am really struggling about what to do with the Master Bedroom/Ensuite/WIR. The standard design is this: http://www.flickr.com/photos/61604000@N08/5599818009/ What I want is a generous sized WIR (get rid of study) and I'm also not interested in having a bathtub in the ensuite. I also wanted to make sure there is a wall opposite the bed to mount the TV. What they suggested is this: http://www.flickr.com/photos/61604000@N08/5600400194/ I didn't like it because I thought it wasted space (the bedroom is larger but the extra space is unusable) and there is no wall opposite the bed for the TV. What I have suggested is this: http://www.flickr.com/photos/61604000@N08/5599830407/ But I am not 100% happy with this either as there is that weird space behind the bedroom door and I'm not sure what to do with that. I considered including it as part of the bathroom and making it a recessed storage space. Or maybe turn it into storage that it accessible from the WIR. Also, I would ideally like to close of the entrance to the WIR (perhaps a curtain would suffice). So what I'm asking for is suggestions on: - the floorplan - what to do with the weird space - how to close off the WIR Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks Re: Master Bedroom/Ensuite/WIR layout 2Apr 09, 2011 6:11 pm If you really want a big WIR why not use the whole of the study? Make the existing WIR a sort of lobby with entrances from it into the new WIR and The bathroom. You could also keep the linen in this laundry. The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get ! Re: Master Bedroom/Ensuite/WIR layout 4Apr 10, 2011 5:51 pm Thanks Judie that's a great suggestion and I wish it would work! What I forgot to mention earlier is the facade. The facade shown on the Jandson site is very modern with a high horizontal window. But because I am building in an established neighbourhood, I've had to choose something a bit more traditional to blend in. My facade looks like this: http://www.flickr.com/photos/61604000@N08/5604999701/ There are two vertical windows at the front which would make your suggestion impractical (there would be a vertical window in the shower). Even if it were frosted, I don't think I would be comfortable showering where there is a window to the front street! Re: Master Bedroom/Ensuite/WIR layout 6Apr 11, 2011 10:57 am As bel suggested, put the ensuite in the study area, and you have the rest of the space for the WIR, a sliding door to close off the WIR, no weird space behind the bedroom door and a wall for the TV. Hopefully you can work the WIR shelving around the front window requirements. I'm not very good at positioning things inside the ensuite. The guys at Jandson should be able to help with that.
