Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Matt's Brando - Bricking 61May 10, 2011 10:25 am That's what we were scared of, we didn't want our house in a hole, had seen it so many times. Bentley, have done an amazing job with ours, we love it. I will PM the curtain guys details. We have a contact for smart wiring, my DH has the number,. We only went with the basic package Bentley offer and added 3 more tv points. The house we are renting has the basic, and everything runs really well all throughout the house. Laptops, Ipods, etc.... remember you get your $1500.00 credit from Telstra when you move in. Ours has just ran out, but we get it again when we move into our new home. the rental is brand new, so therefore we got it here and then again because our home is brand new. Wasn't happy at first, they stuffed everything up, but after fifty phone calls and a few not so nice emails, they fixed it all. Can't complain about the credit though, it's because we have no choice but to go with them, they give us the credit. Have not paid a bill for 7 months, that's foxtel, phone, internet. Will def give them a call! We have gone with a more complex smart-wiring setup. I work in IT, so I like things a bit more complex. We have network cables in all rooms, multiple phone points, multiple TV points, Rumpus setup as a Home Theatre, and some other extra goodies . So was a fair bit more complex for Bentley to do. Yeah, will def chase Telstra for our $1500. Might just be enough to pay for a couple of months worth of bills Re: Matt's Brando - Bricking 66May 16, 2011 8:09 am So today is the 1 year anniversary of when we signed the land contracts. I'm still a bit dirty that the land took so long to title which has delayed the build so long. Anyway here's another pic from 5 weeks after the slab. I suppose the brickie will use scaffold to finish off the walls this week, then maybe brick under the windows next week and we'd be at lock up. But yes he's doing a bang up job and I should bring him a few roadies this week I think. We are on the home stretch now, been given a finish date. Bentley stand by their reputation, I hoped they would, but now I know they do. I'm sure you will be feeling the same way, so many horror stories you hear and read about building, but this has been a breeze. Re: Matt's Brando - Bricking 68May 20, 2011 6:50 pm I took my brickie a few roadies for a job well done and stayed to have a beer with him. Nice bloke who's proud of his work. He reckons he'll be done next week. We also have a delivery of plaster and a team of 10 sparkies and plumbers furiously trying to finish the rough ins before the plasterer comes on monday. They didn't quite finish but will be back tomorrow to wrap it up. Some piccies. No plans for it. It's a high pitch concrete tile roof so condensation shouldn't be a problem. The ceiling will have r3.5 batts and a seal but th rough ins have to be finished before they start putting that up I imagine. Quote: Wow, looks great Matt. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The bricks themselves are standard natural bricks which have been surface coated in the latte colour on 3 sides. This means that when they chip the natural orange colour underneath will be exposed and the chips will show up as very obvious. Fortunately the layer seems to be doing a good job of not chipping the bricks, despite the raked mortar, and also not laying any of the bricks chipped on the pallet. Nevertheless I'm starting to think that these are not very good bricks and wondering if I will regret not choosing to upgrade to a more expensive brick in years to come. Probably not the news you wanted to hear, and to be fair it's a fairly minor issue - likely purely cosmetic and only noticible (both the cracks and potential chips) when you look up close, but I figured I'd let you know. Hi DrMatt, Noticed your thread from another post and in particular that you have Latte bricks similar to ours. I guess you will be pleased/displeased to know that it seems to be common to how our bricks have turned out. To be honest i wasn't very happy initially about it but in the long run we will probably forget about all these minor blemishes. The one thing that I did notice though is that we have quite a few bricks that have been chipped/scratched so it is quite obvious because - so the sooner you can point them out the more likely something can be done about it. Anyway good luck with your build. Did you have a lot of chips & scratched bricks then? We don't have many but there are 1 or 2. What was / can be done to fix them, do you know? I pointed them out at our PCI and hopefully something gets done about it. Will definitely know by Friday as that is our handover. We do have one with a very noticable fracture - which i will need to fix up. Will let you know how we go. Bricks still progressing with the porch, garage and facade appearing, electrical rough in completed, heater installed, water connected and as I was wandering around the place on Sunday morning a team showed up to install insulation! By this evening they had done all the external walls and had started the ceiling.
