Browse Forums Building A New House Re: How big is your house? 2Apr 08, 2011 5:26 pm Might also be meaningful if people state what % of the block their house does/will cover. Mine will be 312 m2 - single storey (48% of my block area). I hope to get Agoraphobia when I walk into my living area. How big is your house? 3Apr 08, 2011 5:29 pm I think you will find that average new built house is single story and about 28 sq. 60% on block. Re: How big is your house? 5Apr 08, 2011 6:06 pm kyton 53sqs - but our land is 3800sqm so we could afford to go large. We are having some sort of skepticism on this for our house (but not to your figures!). "We can build larger, but the costs will be more. If we build a bit smaller than what we can build in our plot, will we regret it in the future?" How big is your house? 6Apr 08, 2011 6:23 pm I am a believer of build what you need now and in the future. But only if you can (a) financially afford it & (b) if you don't sacrifice something else. Ie had our land been a normal average size block then I would never build something so large as I believe you need yard for children to run around on. We also lucky in finding a builder who quoted a brilliant price. Unfortunately for them it was underquoted and they subsequently went bankrupt. I don't see the need to build a 50sq home for 2 people - but for a family of 5 with an eye to housing elderly parents in the not too distant future it made sense for us. Each to their own. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: How big is your house? 8Apr 08, 2011 6:47 pm kyton I am a believer of build what you need now and in the future. OK thanks, good points Basically we are on the average financial side, so i dont know if it is proper to sacrifice some spaces that would be used in the future and make our lifes more comfortable; in order to save cash now. Re: How big is your house? 9Apr 08, 2011 8:28 pm Ours is 366.63 sqm and is 22.37% of our block which is 1639sqm. There are three of us living here and we are a multi-generational household.
