Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 04, 2011 5:25 pm Hey folks,
Just wanna run this by some of you, as we are new to this whole building game, I was looking over my tender the other day and it says that the owner of the land is to ensure that electricity is supplied to the site and is turned on prior to the commencement of building or else it will be our responsibility for the rental of a generator at $85 per day Now with a completion set at 240 days, that is a potential bill of $20,400 So when I called a few energy companies they all said that normally the builders have a preferred supplier who installs a "builders poll" until such time as the meter box is installed so I phoned the builder and they have said that, that is not true and they use generators Has anybody else heard of this because at this stage this will be a deal breaker and we will walk away rather than risk having to pay over $20000 for something like this Cheers in advance Re: Electricity for builders 2Apr 04, 2011 5:31 pm Builders pole has been the normal method for us. The builders arranged for the electricity to be installed, but we had to pay for the bills during the build. In our case we found that our stage had not been connected to the grid yet, so when they needed electricity to operate the concrete mixer for the brickies there was still none available. We didn't want the job to go on hold, so we offered to pay for generator hire for a two week period to allow them to continue and the power was connected just prior to them finishing.
