Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 04, 2011 2:39 pm We have bought these plans, and as much as I loved the original plans, the house was just too massive. So, from my calculations I have gotten it down to just under 350sqmtrs, which we are happy with. All I have done is fiddle around with the house lines etc, we obviously havent taken it too a designer to get it properly done, but I would just like to know if we are on the right path. What this will be is our dream house for our family of 5. We anticipate us being there until the 3 kids are grown up and gone. Hubby "must have" a media room (which will occasionally be a guest room mostly for our parents who cant get upstairs, hence the bathroom downstairs) and a pool room/rumpus room. I am ok with the toilets being in the bathrooms. Hmm what else... I need to shoe horn a laundry chute in there somewhere. I had trouble trying to work out the WIR for the main bedroom. I didnt really want a doorway in the actual bedroom room, so I have it from the bathroom, there will be a tiny doorway (without a door) of about 600mm. Is this big enough? In the kitchen I would have dearly loved a walk in pantry, but I have jigged it around to just have a regular pantry that I can have drws etc in. I think that is about it. If there is anything that is just bizzare or that I have missed let me know. Staircases that double back are difficult enough but with a blank wall opposite the bottom it will make it even harder. (thats unless everything comes flat packed) Sorry to be negative but I have had lots of struggles in the UK moving things in 2 storey houses. The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get ! My uncle modified his staircase to do a U-turn (due to some crappy feng shui principals) and it wasn’t until he moved in that he realised that he couldn’t get the beds upstairs! The only solution was to remove the windows and hoist it through! I had an old shower unit that broke on me and when I took it off, there were only 2 water pipes, instead of the normal 2 water pipes and a shower head pipe.
