Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 03, 2011 6:30 pm Hi All, I was advised on the 22 March by our builder Hess Pty Ltd; the Batemans Bay franchisee of GJ Gardner Homes had gone into receivership on 21 March. I contacted the GJ Gardner Homes NSW head office and spoke with the managing director Jarrod. Jarrod advised that he had only become aware of the issue and would be speaking with the insolvency company and promised to keep us up to date. Jarrod was good to his word and called us that afternoon and the next day. By luck Jarrod was in Canberra the next day setting up the new franchise and asked to meet us out on site in Bungendore. As if things could not get worse we turn up onsite to find that the 35 internal doors, 3 sets of French double glazed doors, singe double glazed door and 5+m of tiles had been stolen. Onsite Jarrod assured us that we would not be left hanging and that we would have our house finished and we would not be out of pocket as the franchise would pick up any costs in relation to finishing the house to the specifications we had. On 29 March GJ Gardner Homes NSW head office advised that the Southern Highlands i.e. Mittigong office had stepped up to undertake the completion of our house and on 30 March we meet with David and his lovely wife Renee at our house and we went through all the remaining work to be done and they assured us that they would finishing the house to our specifications and they would be looking to start and complete the work as quickly as possible. Southern Highlands stepping up to take on the practical completion of our house is no small matter and reflects very well on David. During this time Jarrod was always available to speak too and true to his word had called most days even when there was not much to add. Jarrod's genuine concern and desire to make good was very reassuring during this difficult time and as noted above he delivered on his promise so while we are still awaiting the paper work to sign everything over to Southern Highlands we are assured that we will not have to go through the home owners insurance and that our home will be completed as quickly as possible and with no cost to us; hard to ask for anything more. We will soon (fingers crossed) be commencing our next build with the south coast franchise. Just about to do our colour selections and then hopefully the contracts. Looking forward to getting the ball rolling and plans into council in the near future. Best of luck with your build, look forward to hearing your progress. They have however edited the names etc out of the post and as such it does read a little funny. I am very disappointed that they did so as the people named should get credit for their part in ensuring we get our home and just as important those who do the wrong thing be identified to stop them doing it again as I have since found out that this person may have done the same thing 6+ years ago, now he will be free to do it again. Onto the update, we have signed the paper work and it is sitting with the liquidators who should have it to the Southern Highlands i.e. Mittigong office on Wednesday and David will sign it and then we will be on our way once again on Wednesday the 30th!! We were when the Batemans Bay franchise went into liquidation but 6 weeks off completion, with the new builder having to get the house locked up 1st, no small task with 3 sets of French double glazed doors and a troublesome Trend Windows, we are expecting to be in the new house in around 10 weeks! David & his staff has been very supportive and understanding. They are taking on the completion of our house as if it was one of their own and have ensured us they will be completing the work to the highest quality and as quickly as practical. I cannot emphasis enough how supportive the head office staff have been, special thanks to the tireless work of Tyler and again to the managing director Jarrod who along with the Mittigong office, have always been available to talk too. I will continue to update this thread as we move forward. Cheers, Darth Teddy Bear Re: G J Gardner head office steps up after franchise goes bu 4May 08, 2011 10:46 am Hi all, Onwards and upwards!! If all goes well we hopefully will be in our house within 12 weeks, our original move in date was 30 April. The paper work transferring our contract to the G J Gardner Southern Highlands (i.e. Mittigong) office has been signed by all parties and we are now able to move forward with the completion of our house; build baby build!! We meet David at his Southern Highlands (i.e. Mittigong) office on Tuesday to discuss the variations and the remaining work. We have a very customised house with nothing being standard, thankfully I have been involved in every step of the build process so we were able to make sense of all the variations and remaining work. Our main concern at this time is getting the house locked up again after the theft of the doors as Trend refuse too assist, cannot say I am displeased except that this will cause a delay as they have to find someone else. I do not think that I can convey equitably just how supportive the G J Gardner franchise has been. The staff at the head office were and continue to be available and responsive as has the Southern Highlands (i.e. Mittigong) office. At no time did they do anything to make me feel that the G J Gardner franchise would not deliver on their initial commitment to ensure we had our house completed and at no cost to us including honouring any rebates. During the week we were told by David that he cannot start until the "new" new home owners warranty is done and to do that he needs to provide a full scope of works for what has been done and what he is to do. I am grateful that GJ Gardner are managing the change over as I know it will be done right and they are proceeding as quickly as possible. It just frustrating as no-one has done this before and every time we think we are right to go along comes another delay. David said he won't be so quick to put up his hand next time and I can empathise with him. So for now onwards and onwards!! Cheers, Darth Teddy Bear Re: G J Gardner head office steps up after franchise goes bu 6Nov 30, 2011 7:33 am wkg G'day Darth Teddy Bear, What is the latest with your house? Didn't appear to be going that well last May. I'm asking because I'm having a house built by GJ Gardner, although through a different office. Am having a world of trouble with delays, slowness, poor quality work etc. The house commenced in August 2009 and here we are in August 2011 and the house is still no where near finished. Wished I'd never started with GJ Gardners. As the builder did not take out a Home Owners Warranty before doing all the work, as required by law and the HIA contract, the house has been in limbo for months. I cannot fault in your assessment above. Cheers, Darth Teddy Bear Re: G J Gardner head office steps up after franchise goes bu 7Sep 02, 2019 9:04 pm These GJ Gardner franchisees have gone bust.
