Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Aug 12, 2012 9:31 pm Hi All!
Decided to start a build thread because I don't think I've ever seen a Canberra one from my limited browsing! Quick intro, my name is Johnny, 31years old, married with a 19 month old boy, building a house to up-size, cause we have another one due in January 2013 Contract signed : September 2011 Land settled: February 2012 Land Cut: March 2012 Nearly lockup :August 2012 Facebrick: old colonial balmain blend Orb color: Shoal Gray Here is the plot back in March 2012 Site cut done. We have a 2 meter slope from back to front, so decided on a split. Worked out well, as we wanted a split level anyway http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/w371/unfunkable/7089ad3d.jpg Footings! http://i1072.photobucket.com/albums/w371/unfunkable/6a99fc90.jpg Drainage in. It actually rained during the night after the slab was poured, but doing some research this was actually good for it! I was expecting at least another 1-2 weeks before any work, but my wife drove by and quickly rang me to tell me we had some frame work up. I was out there like a flash. We really wanted a raked roof, and that was one of the must in this build. The build has gone very good so far. Great communication with builder and so far no hiccups. Great flexibility as well. The wife and I clash on a lot of things, I'm sure anybody who has done something similar will know this . To make things easier, we delegated tasks. I'm in charge of the electrical stuff, kitchen appliances, anything to do with entertainment. The better half gets to choose colors, tiles, pretty much all the interior decorating stuff and landscaping. So far this arrangement is working out very well! We also imported all our kitchen appliances from the UK. Top of the range Miele stuff. Ovens, induction top, range-hood, fridge, dishwasher, dryer, washer, warming draws. Also imported a franke sink, and 2 natuzzi leather lounges. We had to do this, as we could not afford the prices here and looked around and successfully managed to do it. The lounges alone saved us about $12k off prices here! Even more savings on the Miele stuff including shipping! Im a GTR man Hi! Thanks for the kind words. That's the Mrs forrester xt. I get to drive it on my days off cause I need to lug the bub around I have called her the minister for finances as well when negotiating prices for other things, it actually works really well...hahah I'm just trying to jot down as much as I can remember, it been about 5 months since we first started, and a lot of things I've forgotten cause its been such a whirlwind wind with the build and work and the baby. I've also been told soooo many times I have such a bad memory...sorry what was that dear?
