Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 01, 2011 7:37 pm Just say somebody went stealth mode into their home and found a kitchen almost fully installed (very happily) just one problem, it's not the one they ordered.
It is better than the one they ordered and the one they originally wanted, but also comes with an increased price tag to boot. Where would YOU go with that? Re: Nice kitchen... 3Apr 01, 2011 8:08 pm I'd be very very quiet! my new build thread- Ben Trager https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=89826 my switch build thread (2011) https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=36569 Re: Nice kitchen... 5Apr 01, 2011 8:44 pm Dollar ...my question is.....who has the one they ordered???? They may have stuffed up the order, which means they'd have to order another kitchen in the "right" colours, just trying to figure out how they'd do it with their suppliers. Would they be able to "return" it? (I'd think not) which may cost them more money if the customer is not willing to pay for the incorrect kitchen even though it's probably better or would the builder be happy to wear the loss or take the chance that somebody in the future might want the incorrect kitchen and the kitchen fit their kitchen? Seriously, a whole kitchen wrong LOL Strange but true... Re: Nice kitchen... 6Apr 03, 2011 9:59 am So they got another thing wrong, the laminate colour in bathroom. Do you think I could bring this one to the SS's attention without raising any suspicion about the kitchen, went for another look, it's definitely wrong LOL I thought they may have changed it... The upgrade kitchen has definitely been taken out of costing, do you think the builder will change it if they figure it out or get us to keep it try to make us pay for it? How much cost difference is there between vinyl wrap and laminex anyway? Trying to see how this is going to play out Has this happened to anybody else? Re: Nice kitchen...not mine though... 7Apr 03, 2011 10:27 am Me personally, would come clean and talk to the builder. I have a strong dislike for dishonesty and like to have a clear concience. Tell them you like the kitchen and would be happy to stay with that. You never know, they might decide that is is less hassle to leave it there and let you keep it. If they choose to remove it, then you haven't lost out and you will have the kitchen you paid for. If they want you to pay extra, negotiate a cheaper price. Re: Nice kitchen...not mine though... 8Apr 03, 2011 10:34 am How would this work when referring back to plans? Re: Nice kitchen...not mine though... 9Apr 03, 2011 10:43 am Tough situation! It would be SOOO tempting not to say anything but it would make feel sick with worry for being dishonest. Perhaps you might be able to think of a way of mentioning it in 'round-a-bout' fashion. eg. "The kitchen wasn't what I was expecting...but I still love it" Fingers crossed they decide it is too tricky to remove and replace and that you get to keep it at no additional cost! By the looks some of them don't refer to plans very well anyway LMAO Re: Nice kitchen...not mine though... 12Apr 03, 2011 10:48 am Miss Tough situation! I was thinking of waiting to say anything until the drawer and door handle are on....LOL And I really don't want to get anybody into trouble either, it's a pretty big stuff up And it looks ace Re: Nice kitchen...not mine though... 13Apr 03, 2011 11:19 am HomerJSimpson Tamara1975 Me personally, would come clean and talk to the builder. Tell them you like the kitchen but are not prepared to pay the price. If you didn't sign anything to say you wanted it and are willing to pay the extra, they can't force you to pay. I would tell them either to take it out or give it to you for free. Or you tell them whay you are prepared to pay. If it is a ploy, don't give into it. Good luck!! Tell us how you get on. Re: Nice kitchen...not mine though... 14Apr 03, 2011 11:32 am Wouldn't it cost the company more to remove the existing kitchen to then replace it with the one as ordered? Not only a waste of money but a waste of resources. Re: Nice kitchen...not mine though... 15Apr 03, 2011 11:48 am The actual cost difference for a kitchen with melamine doors and vinyl wrap doors is minimal. If it was 2 pack then yes the difference is substantial. They wont get you to pay more for your kitchen (they can't) and I seriously doubt they will bother changing them if you let them know you are happy to keep them. To reorder new doors and then have to change them over will cost way more than the very slight cost difference between what you have ordered and what they gave you. You may have had yourself a win! So be very careful. If they try to chrage you full whack tell them to remove their mistake, they'll probably buckle. I would be willing to pay a bit, partner on the other hand will pay not a cent extra LOL Thanks for your replies! Hope we can keep it Re: Nice kitchen...not mine though... 18Apr 03, 2011 5:35 pm Our kitchen isn't THAT big but our vinyl wrap was still $1500 extra, straight from the manufacturer no builders mark up I would come clean, I think it is more hassle than what its worth to take it out. If it belonged to someone else I doubt they would want it, I would want a brand new one installed which it technically wouldn't be. Good luck!
