Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 31, 2011 1:10 am i got 266 mm space between ceiling and overhead cupboards in my kitchen with 31c ceiling. These overheads are not on the wall where i have rangehood. It is about 1800mm in length on top of wall oven and appliances cupboard between fridge recess and pantry. what would everyone recommend - * should i ask for overheads extending upto ceiling - what are pros and cons for that? * or should i have bulkheads - what is the point of paying extra for high ceiling and then paying again for reducing ceiling height. * or should i just leave it like that and may be place some decorative items on top of overheads. Re: overhead cupboards going upto 31c ceiling in kitchen 3Mar 31, 2011 1:21 am I agree with Wrexter, bulkheads in the right position can make an excellent definition to a kitchen. You can either bring a bulkhead down over the whole kitchen, or just one over the area you are talking about, or around all of your benchtops - it really depends on the design of your kitchen, it's hard to say without seeing it. If it was me, I definitely wouldn't leave the spare space - the top of overheads accumulate so much grease and gunk mixed with dust, no matter how much you use a rangehood. I've learnt the hard way Re: overhead cupboards going upto 31c ceiling in kitchen 4Mar 31, 2011 1:27 am Actually in Rizzo's kitchen ( and this will be the same in my case) she is using a double bulkhead. one bulkhead above overhead cupboards, and a bulkhead to cover kitchen. My living area height is 31c. Re: overhead cupboards going upto 31c ceiling in kitchen 6Apr 01, 2011 10:20 am Aww, thanks, I'm flattered that my kitchen has been used for reference Although I should update the pics lol. We dropped the ceiling down over our whole kitchen to define the area as we too have high ceilings and as you can see the living, dining and kitchen are one long room. I then asked for bulkheads over the cabinets because in our old house, we had our cupboards go to the ceiling, but they were just too high. Maybe if you were lacking in storage you could utilise them, but you do only have one shelf in them, so I don't see the point if you need to stand on a stool to access them which is why I put the extra bulkhead in this time. They are a perfect height for me now I still need to get a shelf put in over the fridge as that becomes a collector of crap too (as you can see in above photo) Re: overhead cupboards going upto 31c ceiling in kitchen 7Apr 01, 2011 10:29 am Hi Rizzo, I'm with Wrexter your kitchen is also one of my favourites on H1.
