Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Nov 03, 2010 11:50 am Hi!
So, here it is my very first thread! yikes! We're building south of the river and we chose Dale Alcock Homes to build with because we loved the finish on their houses. We played around with the Hampton floorplan a fair bit and have come up with something that suits our family. I loved the Kensington elevation so it's been slightly adapted to suit our floorplan. We've also gone with 31c ceilings in the entry, lounge, dining, kitchen and Alfresco. If I had thought about it I'd have probably just gone 31c throughout... but at the time it didn't really occur to me to have the whole house done. Our house will sit on a 627sqm block, 35 deep x 17.93 wide. Area calculations of the house: Ground floor: 260.53 Garage: 36.61 Alfresco: 17.64 Portico: 7.70 Total: 322.48sqm Our Floorplan. http://i830.photobucket.com/albums/zz222/BuildingOwl/plan.jpg Elevation: http://i830.photobucket.com/albums/zz222/BuildingOwl/house.jpg Re: SnowyOwl's Build (building with Dale Alcock in Baldivis) 2Nov 03, 2010 12:52 pm I have to wait till I get home as I can't see the photos Re signature just go in Control Panel - select Profile from your LHS menu and "Edit Signature" Preliminary agreement 23/11 Contract 22/03 Prestart 06/04 - finalised on 30/04 Unconditional approval 10/05 Demolition 05/07 Slab 26/08 Brickwork 13/09-06/10 Roof frame started 07/10 viewtopic.php?f=31&t=32292 Re: SnowyOwl: Building with DAH, South of the River. Re: SnowyOwl's Build (building with Dale Alcock in Baldivis) 4Nov 03, 2010 1:27 pm Hi Snowy...thats huge nice plan. hav u got deliveries yet? Re: SnowyOwl's Build (building with Dale Alcock in Baldivis) 5Nov 03, 2010 1:55 pm Thanks OwnHome... We haven't had our delivery yet... hoping it won't be too much longer as the slab has been down almost 3 weeks now. Re: SnowyOwl's Build (building with Dale Alcock in Baldivis) 6Nov 03, 2010 11:19 pm Whoa SnowyOwl that slab looks huge!!! We were tossing up whether to go with the Hampton or the Santorini, and like the changes you've made. Sure it will all look great. Good luck!!! Re: SnowyOwl's Build (building with Dale Alcock in Baldivis) 7Nov 04, 2010 12:36 pm Thanks Lis, The slab is huge, even I was surprised! I wondered why I kept getting strange looks whenever I said I thought the house might be a bit small! lol Trouble is... I have no concept of size when it comes to metres... lol Re: SnowyOwl's Build (building with Dale Alcock in Baldivis) 8Nov 04, 2010 12:47 pm snowyowl It's nothing to do with size in meters or other types of measurement - the slab looks small when you sit on it and try to visualise where the rooms will be. Had the same reaction - almost felt like I'll end bumping into the walls and started panicking that they made a mistake or something. Now with the walls up and the roof on, it’s a different story. I feel like my entry hall is huge Preliminary agreement 23/11 Contract 22/03 Prestart 06/04 - finalised on 30/04 Unconditional approval 10/05 Demolition 05/07 Slab 26/08 Brickwork 13/09-06/10 Roof frame started 07/10 viewtopic.php?f=31&t=32292 Re: SnowyOwl's Build (building with Dale Alcock in Baldivis) 9Nov 04, 2010 9:18 pm Hi Snowyowl That's a nice looking slab you have there - IT'S HUGE. Love your frontage and the plan is fantastic. Can't wait to watch your build. Bagherra - Thanks for your words of wisdom... I'm going to try and visualise - but I'm kinda rubbish at that. Maybe I should take up a piece of furniture with me next time I stalk the block. Can just imagine my hubby's face if i asked him to dismantle our bed and re assemble it on the slab! lol So... update time. My name is SnowyOwl and it's official I am a block stalker! Every day without fail - even the weekends - just in case the brickies have decided to work on my house instead enjoying all this lovely weather! lol Ok... so we've had all our lovely deliveries and have met our lovely brickies. They've started building the most amazing walls and are keeping the site nice and clean! We've nicely mentioned to the SS that we'll be having the BI in at each stage and he's happy with that. Walls are being built all over the place and the house is being to take shape nicely! Re: SnowyOwl's Build (building with Dale Alcock in Baldivis) 13Nov 17, 2010 3:34 pm wow - so much done already... We are building a version of the Hampton also. Our slab went down yesterday. It's becoming more real now!! Are you excited yet?? It's so great how the same hosue can be tweaked to suit different families. Ours will have the Suite 3 elevation but the external colours of the Cable Beach. Fun isn't it! Re: SnowyOwl's Build (building with Dale Alcock in Baldivis) 17Nov 28, 2010 8:04 pm Hi there SnowyOwl. Re: SnowyOwl's Build (building with Dale Alcock in Baldivis) 20Dec 17, 2010 10:50 am Thanks for your comments everyone! Bricks... yes, spot on Bagheera and Sezza... they are the Austral Cervantes!! So, our build has been going well but has now come to a standstill. We've had our roof tiles and sarking delivered, just need DAH to deliver the roofers! lol Seems that they are in demand at the moment. We still do our daily block stalks... and have discovered our house has become the daily drop in centre for the builders who are building on the block next door. Used tea bags left on the floor, sandwich filling that they don't like or don't want to eat are arranged in pretty patterns, empty coke cans, cigarrette butts... umm... what else... oh.. make shift chairs created from bricks they are bringing in! I'm so cross about it - I don't have a problem with them seeking shade, but to leave it in such a mess is totally out of order. DAH tradesmen never once left our house like that! On the whole... we've been happy with everything so far. The brickies did put some internal bricks on the T-bar instead of external.. which we'd only just noticed. So... OH emailed the CLO with the specs for the bricks and the bricks were replaced straight away! Which we were really pleased with, although was kinda surprised that they did it... surely the brickies are taught at bricklaying school that internal bricks aren't the same strength as external ones. Or, maybe they were on a sickie that day! lol Photos will be on their way... once I have located them. I can't find them on my laptop so i think i need to have OH's laptop on at the same time... something do with networking??
