Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 20, 2011 4:28 pm Hi guys. We are just finalising our building pland and intend to have a bench setup in the laundry with a cupboard in the middle and FL washing machine on one side and dryer on the other (both underbench). My question is it's all very well to have the taps for the washing machine in the underbench cupboard with an access hole through into the washing machine but what happens with the waste/drain hose in this case? I have read that the hose needs to be at a certain height to avoid flooding or draining back to the machine. Any help would be appreciated! Re: Laundry waste water for washing machine question 2Mar 20, 2011 5:28 pm If you have a trough in the laundry its normally a simple matter to plumb the waste hose into the U bend below the trough. Most U bends already have a fitting molded in which just needs to be drilled out. Alternately a separate waste with its own trap can be installed in the rear of the cupboard. Re: Laundry waste water for washing machine question 3Mar 20, 2011 5:56 pm Thanks Bashworth. I'm worried that it won't be high enough though as it appears as though they are typically only 30-40cm off the floor level. I also read somewhere that those connections typically aren't big enough for the pressure which comes from a washing machine when it is emptying. Not sure how true that is though. Re: Laundry waste water for washing machine question 4Mar 20, 2011 6:53 pm I have used the connection to the U trap method for washing machines and dishwashers in the Kitchen for about the last 10-15 years at several properties without any problems The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get ! Re: Laundry waste water for washing machine question 5Mar 21, 2011 9:56 am I've also been told by a pluimber that the U bend connector isn't suitable for washing machines. But it may depend on the machine. Another plumber told me you can get an attachment that sits directly under the trough and has two connectors, one is washing machine size and the other is dishwashing machine size. That lets you get the connector a bit higher. We are still doing research on the topic, and in the meantime have our waste outlet pipe emptying directly into the trough.
