G'day, after being a member and religiously reading every thread for the last 18 months I thought I'd like to add my experience to the "building a new house" thread. I live in Biloela, a small town in central Queensland. I purchased a town block and then proceeded to ask local builders about what they could provide. I was equipped with what ammo I was given by homeone and found that I had many questions that were unsespected by the builders. Kev at Cavalier had every answer and was more than willing to change a Cavalier design to suit our needs. Our house plans now are a complete frankenstein compared to the original, he did many plan changes and redraws(with no charge) for us with him simply saying that he" wanted to build the house that we wanted". I have read about a lot of builders doing their best to ******** standards and poor workmanship so I was glad when the standards included in Kev's contract included 50mm foil backed rock wool beneath roof sheeting as well as bats on the ceiling. At least a 900mm concrete path around the house. He assured me that every door would be painted top and bottom( I have checked and they have). He will include any brand appliance that you want and if there is any fitting or design idea you can think of he will work to make it done. I have found that he is definately not a builder that says "You will have this and nothing else". We are currently up to the tiling stage and are blessed that we can enter and go as we please. I am posting this merely for the fact that I have read mostly threads about builders doing things badly, maybe we should also be posting about the builders that do things properly.
Cheers. Kingo.
