Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 14, 2011 1:41 pm Hi Guys, We have just had our site cut done with Simonds in Geelong. We have noticed there is a considerable amount of sandstone where the stepdown is for our porch and garage. It appears that they have done all the cutting they need, however I am concerned that they will have to excavate the rock before they lay the slab. Could anyone offer any advice if they have encountered this? or any idea if they can simply just build on top of the sandstone as they've cut what they needed to? Thanks Stuart Re: Can you build on rock? -Sandstone in particular 2Mar 14, 2011 1:51 pm I am no expert but this is my basic understanding after working for a builder many years ago. As long as the sandstone is bedrock there will be no problem. If the sandstone is just a floater they will need to try and get the slab on the same soil/or rock throughout.
