Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 10, 2011 4:11 pm Hi everyone, Would love to hear your opinion on my situation. Put simply: building a house on a sloping block. Was quoted roughly 50k. I needed a retaining wall on one side of my block. As the fill of dirt was huge! My drawn up plans say that if my neighbour puts a retaining wall up mine becomes defunct. I'm being charged 20k just for this wall! Arghhh Anyway I find out that my neighbour is building with same builder! So I ask that our sites be done at the same time. This has happened. Only one retaining wall to go in & site has been halted for 3 wks for engineers to re draw our plans up due to a different sites for both our sites. I am expecting a credit & cost variation to contract. But feel I'm getting the run around! As every wk I'm told, next wk you'll find out, tomorrow, etc. Question: does everyone agree that I should at least get a minimum of 10-20k credit?? I think because- 1. One retaining wall for both sites vs the two that were planned for each property. 2. Sites were cut & filled together. Opinions welcomed Mel Re: Question everyone - opinions pls on site cost variation 2Mar 11, 2011 10:17 am I think it would depend on why the retaining wall was built .. did your neighbour cut as well, making the wall required both for their cut and for your fill? If that's the case I would expect you to be sharing the cost. If the wall from the original plans cost $20k and the combined wall cost $25k and you pay half, that would give you $7.5k credit. I would be pushing to see how much the wall actually cost to build.
