Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 09, 2011 11:33 pm We are very first time builder and in pre-building contract with Fowler. In accordance with our council requirement, we need 15000 L rainwater tank underground and Fowler charges us ~20k(excluding tax) for the tank. We are a bit surprise with the price and will negotiate with Fowler after learning more about rainwater tank….! We heard someone spent ~7k for their ~11000 L underground water tank. I know stormwater drainage plan is somewhat customized design so the price is vary. But, if you have any experience and info relating to underground water tank’s cost, please share with us. Many thanks for your help! Re: Is it reasonable to pay $20k for 15000 L rainwater tank? 3Mar 10, 2011 8:41 am Maybe. Depends on amount of earthwork, distance from house for plumbing and other factors. It does sound a little high but its not out of the question. Where are you building (no location in your profile ) This place has a 22k lt tank on sale for less than $9k but then you would need to have it installed and delivered. http://www.rainwatertanksdirect.com.au/ ... und-tanks/ Theses guys have 20k lt for under $7k http://www.tanket.com.au/Delivery.aspx I suggest you shop around and tell your builder if they don't drop the price you'll be supplying your own. If they don't like that tell them they won't be building your house. Re: Is it reasonable to pay $20k for 15000 L rainwater tank? 5Mar 10, 2011 8:55 pm Thank you all for your info and experiences with rainwater tank. Yep, we are building in Sydney. In our tender stage, Fowler charged us 6,4k for 3000 L above ground tank while other builder quoted only 4k for 10000 L above ground tank. So, I feel Fowler are generally using more expensive engineers to serve their clients ! Poor us !!! Re: Is it reasonable to pay $20k for 15000 L rainwater tank? 6Mar 10, 2011 9:12 pm That'll buy you about 8 million litres of water at current prices or enough water to last over 30 years. I can think of better ways to save money on utility costs or helping the environment for your dollar if you are able to connect to mains water. Just putting it out there...
