Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 09, 2011 9:39 pm We just measured our garage in the house we are renting - it is 6x6m.... we have 2 medium sized cars but you can just fit them in there... we knew we wanted a bigger garage but goodness me how big does it need to be? We would like to be able to drive in and reverse out, as at the moment one of us drives in and the other has to reverse just so we can open the drivers side door. Could you tell me what you made your garage size, are you happy with the size? Also how much extra was it for your garage door if you widened your garage?.... thanks! Re: Garage size! 3Mar 09, 2011 9:51 pm 6x6 is big enough, we have it now, but you wont fit much more than 2 cars in it, we had a quote on our new build to extend it 1.5 meters wider and ad a window and it was about $3000 but i guess it depends on your builder and also it depends on your roof line also, only some designs can be done we were told Re: Garage size! 4Mar 09, 2011 9:55 pm We have a renault and a chrysler and believe me in a 5.8m x 5.8m (inside garage measurements) our cars just fit in by 2 - 3cm front and back.... not so squeezey! so hubby definitely wants something bigger.... another added cost! oh well..... another thing to add to the list of MUST HAVES! Re: Garage size! 5Mar 09, 2011 10:25 pm Ours is 6.1 x 6.1m and seems big enough but havent moved in, we have a lifted 4x4 and Corolla, only thing we are not sure about is fitting in height wise. But i think 6x6m should be big enough ?? The road to success is always under construction House completed April 2011 - slowly making it a home... Re: Garage size! 6Mar 09, 2011 10:28 pm On our second house we extended the garage to 7.5 x 7.5 mtrs. We fit two cars with a motorbike either side. It was well worth the extra money. Good for resale value too we hope..... You also need to check your drive in clearance height, we got caught out on our first house. Re: Garage size! 7Mar 09, 2011 11:37 pm Zarli Ours is 6.1 x 6.1m and seems big enough but havent moved in, we have a lifted 4x4 and Corolla, only thing we are not sure about is fitting in height wise. But i think 6x6m should be big enough ?? I was told to have the height 30 courses instead of standard 25/28 courses..... this was to fit 4WD's.... Re: Garage size! 8Mar 09, 2011 11:55 pm We only raised our garage to 28 course, but have a car with 2 " lift & 33 " tyres + roofrack...somehow I dont think its gonna fit. Unless we take the roofrack off. We will just have to wait and see The road to success is always under construction House completed April 2011 - slowly making it a home... Re: Garage size! 9Mar 10, 2011 7:41 am 6x6 is workable, but it's always a challenge. I think 0.5m of extra width would make a huge difference, giving 16.7 cm extra on each side of each car to open doors (assuming you don't open the doors between the two cars at the same time). 6m is long enough, but 6m really isn't wide enough. The one thing DH wanted was a large garage - we own a caryard so always have an assortment of cars at home. Plus it has a powderroom and bar in it - perfect for holding my 40th last year. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Garage size! 12Mar 10, 2011 9:34 am This is our garage to be. The "specified measurement are 6.41w x 6.32 short length and 10.52 long side. Our internal space should be 5.97w and 5.85d (short) and 9.76d (long) but this means that you still need to allow room to get around the front &/or back of the cars. I like to leave at least 700mm to be comfortable getting past a car with shopping bags so that i don't ding/scratch/bump it. When looking at garage dimensions, you don't usually get the true internal free space measurements and they will vary a little due to the variation in building to specs. I wanted to add 1mt width to ours but it wouldn't fit om the block as is ans we had to shave room out of living and bedrooms to get it this wide. Our 2 cars (Honda CRV and Toyota Vienta Wagon) should fit side by side with room to open doors to full extension IF you can get through the door with about 100mm off the outer mirrors. Our drive is at the end of the street and goes straight into the garage though. If you have to swing into your garage you'll need a wider door. I used these figures to see if the cars would fit. 700mm (to open passenger door of car on left) + Width of Car A + 900mm (to open drivers door A and Passenger door B) + Width of Car B + 700mm (to open drivers door of car on right) For us this works out to be 700+1785+900+1780+700 + 5865mm (5.865m) = A whopping great 105mm left to spare Dear Members I have to decide the Facade column size. My custom builder standard is 350mm with rendering, but i asked for 470mm plus stone or tiles and yet to get… 0 4289 All sorted guys. Just needed to buy a blade with the correct bush. Dunno how to delete this post, can't find any help file. Cheers. 1 2807 Current door width is approx 2700, looking to have double doors fitted 820-820. What size does the frame need to be before door jamb? Thanks 0 2328 |
