Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 09, 2011 3:03 pm I'm curious as to what materials people are using for their hot and cold water plumbing pipework. Copper / PVC / polybutylene (PB) / something else? Our addenda currently specifies PVC. The previous house we built used polybutylene. One thing I've noticed with PB is the pipes (in roof space) get very hot, and in the Perth summer the water out of the cold tap will burn an adult until the cool underground water has flowed through the pipes. Does PVC help reduce this? Would appreciate any comments. Re: Plumbing pipework materials 2Mar 09, 2011 3:54 pm All plastics are pretty similar for heat transfer as far as your problem is concerned the thicker the plastic the less the water will heat up. Probably your best solution is to insulate the pipes in the roof space. The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get ! Re: Plumbing pipework materials 3Mar 12, 2011 3:11 pm I dont know about Perth, but in Victoria, Pex or PB piping (Rehau, Auspex, Buteline, Yorkflex, etc) is mainly used, due to copper being so expensive. It is however not allowed to be used on solar flow and returns (copper must be used), but the rest of the house is fine. PVC piping (i guess you mean high pressure) is not used. All pipes in the roof space will get hot, the only way to prevent/combat this is to lag the pipes. Re: Plumbing pipework materials 4May 01, 2011 11:31 am Thanks everyone. Does anyone have any feedback (good or bad) on the use of Sharkbite PEX plumbing? Our builder has used that throughout the house despite PVC being specified in the Addenda. PEX seems more likely than PVC, but I've seen mixed reviews on the Sharkbite system. www.sharkbite.com.au Any comments? Re: Plumbing pipework materials 6Aug 04, 2011 1:17 pm Can anyone recommend specific products for lagging PEX pipes in brickwork and in a roof-space? Our pipes are installed in grooves chased into the internal leaf of our brick walls. They will shortly be set in place with cement, and before that happens I'd like to add a layer of insulation. We are in WA. That's a fantastic result! Happy you got it sorted out. cheers Simeon 6 8640 in the stormwater pit or the drain? Those dont look like theyd fit in the drain.
