Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Dec 21, 2007 11:52 pm Hello,
I am currently building with @d3nbr00k (M@kbuild on the South Side) and we are still in the contract stages but we are having problems with our consultant. I was wondering if anyone found them to be dishonest and dismissive of their concerns once the contract is signed?? We didn't demand everything in writing and we may end up paying the price for it. We are really having a bad experience and they haven't even started building yet. Anyone else having this problem or are we just dealing with 1 bad apple? Re: Anyone else having problems with @d3nbr00k or M@kbuild? 2Dec 22, 2007 9:10 am I am not building with them. My advice is since you have not started, and the ink of the signing is still wet, persuade the consultant to put down thing in writing. One alternative is you type in your own words the unwritten clauses and send/email them to the consultant. The consultant is hopefully still REMEMBER the promises. Goodluck with it.
Happy holiday! ozn Re: Anyone else having problems with @d3nbr00k or M@kbuild? 3Dec 23, 2007 11:43 am That's probably not going to work... I was hoping to find out if other people had similar problems so that if i take it to the head office to complain it won't sound like an isolated case. Re: Anyone else having problems with @d3nbr00k or M@kbuild? 5Dec 23, 2007 9:45 pm We have selected colour and even that was a problem because we were promised something at the colour selection and then called by our consultant to say that they would charge a fee even though we were guarenteed that there wouldn't be any fees.
I got the same response as always... "did you get that in writing?". You can also let them know that some if not all of your frustrations will be aired on this forum. Re: Anyone else having problems with @d3nbr00k or M@kbuild? 9Dec 23, 2007 10:34 pm Hey i have to admit, it's worked wonders for me!!!! Re: Anyone else having problems with @d3nbr00k or M@kbuild? 10Dec 23, 2007 10:56 pm Yeah I had a friend over for dinner tonight who was the former president of the Master Builders of Australia and I hope that the advice that I got will solve my problems. I really do think that it is just a greedy consultant making the most of a trusting first home builder.
After the Christmas break I will go the the top of the chain and see what I can do from there. Any other advice people can give would be great. I was starting to think that this kind of thing happens to everyone and I would just have to accept it. No it doesn't happen to everyone, nor should it....and no you don't have to accept it....at the end of the day....remember YOU ARE THE CUSTOMER, without you, they would not BE in business.... We wrote a very in depth letter to the head of the company and they have since told us that they have made major changes to their company to prevent the same problems again.
In the end we had 2 major compaints. 1 was that our consultant refused to give us a breakdown on something that we felt we were being overcharged for. This was addressed my the manager and even though we still feel we were overcharged we were satisfied with the breakdown. The second was something that was promised to us by the sales guy. There were 4 items which we were told would not be included (we did not check the model number on the contract when we signed) and the manager came back to us saying that 4 of the items would cost $580 and he would go us halves. We agreed and then when the contract came out only 2 of the items were included (at the agreed $290 for 4). We were sooooooo disappointed but we aren't going to keep fighting over such a small item. In the end we are just MUCH wiser that the company that we are dealing with are now a franchise and some offices seem VERY budget orientated. I can only stress to people that a reputation of honesty and customer service was developed before the company went to a franchise so please beware that your office (based on region) might be more interested in making $290 and not in upholding a good name or having happy customers. traditional gable roof facade - Have you did the dark and light gray color combination in facade with gray stone in facade… 0 894 I'm wondering what a site survey includes, and whether I need one in preparation for planning a house on a 3 ha "semi rural" property in SE NSW.
