Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 08, 2011 1:37 pm Hi guys, My husband and I are in the process of building our 2nd home. We are in bendigo in Victoria and are going thru a small builder in town. We first built with Macquarie Homes which we didnt have many problems with but we wanted a special house this time not just one off the plans. We have decided on a Dennis family design but have changed it quite a bit. We chose the murchison with the games room and have changed the ensuite and WIR as well as the front so its flat and doesnt have the room sticking out. We have also made the garage bigger and have a alfresco area out the back. We have flipped the plan as the entertaining area overlooks better scenery on one side. We have just signed the contracts and have chosen the colours for lockup. We are going with pressed red brick with pressed cream brick pattern corners. With a dark grey (cant remember what the colour is called) roof with the same colour gutter but a cream colour fascia so we have a band around the house. We are up to choosing colours for inside and its been very difficult . Too many colours tiles carpets ... also having twin boys doesnt help as you cant have a really good look at much when they are fighting LOL. I will try and get some pictures up as we go along, so far we have a spot ready for the tank as we dont have town water or gas out there. My hubby is getting his 14 metre long shed with 4 roller doors so at least he can keep all of his junk in there LOL. I have been into dulux and have found a few colours i liked including hog bristle quarter strength but not sure if it will still be too dark on the walls. I am trying to go for the light floor and walls to make it look bigger but dont want it White so to speak. Was thinking maybe a grey or light brown tile with a marble or similar in it for the floor. Then i was thinking a medium brown tile for the showers and around the bath. Just wish there was one already done so i can see what it will look like. I am new to this site so hopefully it doesnt take me long to work it all out. We have gone with the murchison 321 but as we have chosen a small builder to do it we have changed things to it. Instead of having one of the bedrooms sticking out at the front it is just flat across the house. Oh i hear the boys waking will hop on later tonight Contract signed - March 7,2011 Site Cut - May 6, 2011 Pre slab plumbing - 19th May, 2011 Slab - 10th June, 2011 Our thread viewtopic.php?f=31&t=45044 Re: Building our 2nd house :) 6Mar 08, 2011 3:24 pm That is a great plan. You're going to have so much space. With twin boys, you're probably going to need it. contract signed: Nov 09 Released to Construction: 23 Jul 10 Slab poured: 9 Aug 10 Frame completed: 30 Aug 10 Windows & Gutters: 7 Sep 10 Bricks: 15 - 23 Sep 10 Roof: 24 Sep 10 Gyprock: 20 Oct 10 Lockup: 25 Oct 10 Kitchen: 27 Oct 10 Tiling: 6 - 9 Nov 10 Painting: 17 Nov 10 Carpet: 30 Nov 10 PCI: 15 Dec 10 Handover: 17 Dec 10 https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=35943 Re: Building our 2nd house :) 7Mar 08, 2011 7:15 pm OMG apparently the builder is going to get the site cut done in the next few weeks even though we havent got the bank sorted. We have pre approval so he said thats fine... must want to do it before it starts getting wet again. We are renting at the moment and have a lease till 6th November but the owners said if we get the house finished earlier to let him know and he will tell the real estate not to charge us the extra till lease is up. Not sure if he can do it but we will see... at this stage the builder said October is looking good for hand over. Fingers crossed it is before xmas but now my hubbys brother is planning his wedding for OCtober so it might be a very busy month. That's great! I am sure that you will be able to use your first build experience to your advantage. Maybe we can benefit from it too? Welcome to H1, enjoy! www.themaxbuild.blogspot.com forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20717&start=300 www.leahspaperpassion.blogspot.com Re: Building our 2nd house :) 9Mar 08, 2011 8:28 pm thanks themax well we didnt plan on having twins when we built first house. We built a 3 bedroom house with a study but it was going to be too small. And plus we found a nice 6 acre block on the other side of town so we brought it. Then we had to sell our house and find a rental its been a very busy last 7 months. Yes this time we will know what to expect and what to look for. Our builder is pretty good with this one as he has said we will work out the kitchen closer to the time. Re: Building our 2nd house :) 18Apr 15, 2011 8:38 pm Got a sms today saying the bank had paid the deposit so wont be long now Lets hope the next month or so is good weather. Supposed to be in the 20s next week... We also chose most of our colours today in tiles carpet and got a good idea on kitchen cabinets etc. We are going to go a timber laminate on the outside of the island bench and the same on the overhead cupboards but then a cream colour on the underbench cabinets and drawers. Will find out what the colours are i think the tile samples are still in the car lol Its getting so exciting now.. hehe Contract signed - March 7,2011 Site Cut - May 6, 2011 Pre slab plumbing - 19th May, 2011 Slab - 10th June, 2011 Our thread viewtopic.php?f=31&t=45044 Re: Building our 2nd house :) 19Apr 16, 2011 2:29 pm Ok here are the colour choices so far... Carpet is a Quest one colour desert echo Floor tile is a 45 x 45 tile in tigressa beige Tiles for around the shower on the walls and in laundry and above vanities is a 100 x 300 gloss mocha tile (was hoping for a bigger tile in this for around the showers but this is the only size they have) We are doing a similar colour grout for these tiles too think it was a greyish one. Ok now these selections below are not set on yet In the kitchen we will have the back of the island bench in Espresso ligna and the overhead cupboards in the same colour. The cupboards on the island bench and around the stove and oven with be moleskin. The bench with be a kalahari topaz laminate (parbury) although at first i thought it looked a bit too "BUSY" so to speak but i think it is growing on me. We will probably continue the bench into the bathrooms but just have the moleskin for the cupboards in the bathrooms and ensuite.
