Re: The Noodle Family Preston - Painting, tiling, and PCI?!? 202Oct 28, 2011 2:55 pm Thanks Mclaren. I'm so glad that everyone on Home1 cares, because no one else would understand!! This is what we have at the back of our fridge cavity! This is AFTER the plumber "fixed" it. I mean, yes, it actually was worse before!! Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ No, we aren't getting a fridge over that. Unless we want to damage the water pipe and flood the kitchen, or even worse, the power cable and electrify the fridge! So we were never going to accept handover until this was fixed up, and done properly please! Re: The Noodle Family Preston - Painting, tiling, and PCI?!? 204Oct 28, 2011 5:02 pm Hey Cassie I'm feeling a little sad too. Called into the house to show DD1 the kitchen before the house was locked up and we went into the main bathroom and i discovered that the hole for the basin is not in the middle it is to the left on the bench. I asked the guy that was in stalling why it was like that and he said "I thought it was strange not being in the middle, but that is the way it is on the plan" please can anyone think for themselves. So I rang DH and said not happy ring the SS and get it fixed. Strange thing is if you look at the plan it is not exactly drawn in the middle. So I have been eating chocolate, my happiness of my kitchen has turned into sadness. Chin up Cassie these problems must be fixed but it is a little frustrating. Re: The Noodle Family Preston - Painting, tiling, and PCI?!? 205Oct 28, 2011 7:56 pm I’m sorry to read you’re having problems with your build. Sounds very frustrating. I wouldn’t accept it either like that. It’s amazing what they’ll try to get past you. I doubt if it were their house, they’d build it like that! Re: The Noodle Family Preston - Painting, tiling, and PCI?!? 206Nov 01, 2011 1:54 pm Thanks everyone!! We must have super powers of persuasion, because I managed to get into the house when a plumber was there yesterday, and this is what I found!! http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b93/HillsCass/Edited-5454.jpg Hooray hooray and about time too!! Funny thing was, the plumber said it was a totally easy job, hardly any work to it. All that buck passing for nothing So, here are pictures of my filthy bathrooms. I am afraid to get any more than this because it is just so gross. Can't wait for the power to be on so they can do a CLEAN!! (and I'm going to be making sure it's a thorough one!) http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b93/HillsCass/Edited-5455.jpg Ensuite shower Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Ensuite vanity with double basins! Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Main bathroom shower. The shelf, taps and showerhead in here are identical to the ensuite, you'll have to use your imagination! The maintenance guy also came back and patched all the holes behind the stove where they went looking for the power cable. Much better now. This also shows my giant tiled splashback. Loving that! But will look even better after the stove and rangehood go in Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ So, we are still waiting on the meter, showerscreens, towel rails etc. There is supposed to be a concrete bit going outside for the lpg bottles, and then it all needs to be sparkling clean. And then I think that we will be ready and done! I'm trying to get the air-con vents installed in the ceilings now, so that less time is wasted while we are twiddling our thumbs waiting for ETSA, and things will move quickly hopefully when we get the key. We are installing our own HWS, stove, the Air-con outside unit, retaining walls, concrete paths around the house, driveway and flooring, and the data cabling will need to be finished off which will be a major job. I need to install the blinds we already have, the wardrobe shelves and rails and the pantry shelves, and I can start moving boxes over too as soon as we get the key! The countdown has well and truly begun, and we thought we were drowning in boxes, however I am filling them all at an alarming rate and there is no end in sight! It's getting very exciting around here now! Cassie 28/7/11 - Slabbed 15/8/11 - Framed 19/9/11 - LOCKED UP! 6/10/11 - Kitchen in! 11/11/11 - It's all OURS! Great news and a simple solution in the end ... good luck with the clean .. I was still cleaning our tiles on the weekend as we never got around to a proper clean and a "builder's clean" isn't very clean especially when the trades were all there just before handover!! Re: The Noodle Family Preston - Painting, tiling, and PCI?!? 208Nov 01, 2011 7:55 pm Hey Cassie, looking good. You must be getting excited. We are actually thinking of getting professional cleaners in after we put in the carpet and tiles. I've experienced builders clean and I wouldn't actually call it clean. The private inspector went through this morning. I had a bit of a chat to him before he'd finished, and he said so far everything was looking ok. Mostly cosmetic things. I am pretty confident that the house is pretty sound - as he's seen it all going up. So now we can focus on making it look beautiful. Dh and I had already picked up a few things that he had already put into his report, but he's so thorough. Which is good, as I tend to look a little with rose coloured glasses still - I'm in love with the place. However, we are definitely going to be pushing to get in soon. DH thought he was doing the right thing going and organising the bank cheque for the final payment, but forgot that it was drawn immediately, and our loan has already rolled over to a full mortgage, so up our payments have gone. Ouch! We have also had a couple of phone calls from our agent asking when we were going to give our notice, anyone would think they wanted us to leave!! so the sooner we are out of here the better. I don't care if the fences are done anymore, I just want to be paying one set of bills and get on with the next chapter in our lives! Still no meter, so PCI definitely next week on Thursday. Bright and early! Which is good because the SS will already have a copy of the inspectors report, so he can be prepared to action everything. I am a bit miffed that he hasn't gotten anything done since the plumber fixed the kitchen pipes early this week. Still no showerscreens, towel rails etc. And the concrete floor that they fixed will need to be ground down, as it was just screeded over and not finished off properly. He could have gotten all that out the way this week while the house sat doing nothing But the end IS IN SIGHT!! Packing continues, as does organising the plants I am going to be taking with me. and I have to sort out a wine barrel for my goldfish soon too! So much to do! It's the waiting that's a killer isn't it? So, D day is here. Either the meter finally goes in and all is well, or the unthinkable happens. I don't know what we will do if it doesnt go in, but I suspect a lot of THIS! followed by this No one at the house as at 8.40, but I will keep checking it. Can't wait for it to be done so we know pci and handover can go ahead! Got the inspectors report back yesterday, as we hoped not a lot on it, and that mostly cosmetic! He has identified multiple issues with our windows though, so we will be making sure that gets followed up. Some of them have serious dents in the frame that affect them opening/closing! Meanwhile I should get off home1, and twitter and go DO something with my day..... Ooooooh, like packing!!!! Will update the meter saga later! I can't believe your agent calling you and asking you when you are giving notice...how rude!! Yes, well, we won't miss renting, for a multitude of reasons. 3 monthly inspections being one of them! So, I finally got brave enough to go to the house this afternoon. And there was much of this!! We have a meter!!! (2 actually, on peak and off peak) 2 bright and shiny and totally zero'd off meters!! Hooray hooray hooray! So then I went out and bought a power point tester so that I can make sure that all the electricals are working at PCI on Thursday, which is looking to be a rather intense event. Glad it's DH that has to go off to work afterwards and not me - I think I'll need a lie down by then! So, hopefully the showerscreens go in tomorrow, and the cleaner is due as well, they have their work cut out for them. The place is totally feral. Heaps of paint and glue etc stuck to the floors, the cupboards are filthy and I can't wait to see it all sparkling and clean!! So close I can smell it. After I saw the meter, I sat on the front windowsills for about 10 minutes, enjoying the sunshine and letting it all sink in that this was going to be our home, very very soon. It's still not sinking in! Tell me I'm not the only one that just can't believe how lucky they are?!?!
