Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 06, 2011 9:05 pm Greetings everyone. Time to stop drooling over everyone elses build and get ours up and running. Home1 is such an amazing resource, we would love to add our share to everyone's experience. We have a contract on a block just out of Mt Barker in the Adelaide Hills. Settlement is on the 1st of April 2011, full steam ahead. We signed a contract with Hick1nbotham for a Preston (slightly modified to fit on the block) on the 26th January 2011. We have so far received (and sent back for correction & received again) our Master Plans, waiting anxiously on our footings/engineers report as that will answer the dreaded question... retaining walls??? A little about us. Family of 4, with 2 boys 13 and 11. We have built in the hills before, but waaay back in 2001. It was a house and land package, so no say in design, or anything else much, done on a super tight budget. This time the budget, as always, is tight, but it's our block and our rules. As everyone would know, you learn so much from your first build, and our needs have changed a lot since then as well. Ok, enough talk, here's the plans! As soon as we get our engineers plans, we can start doing the rest of the quotes and work out where the money is most needed! Meanwhile, the bank approval is nearly through. Should know next week and then it's just a case of ticking off all the steps! And don't worry DW is into photography in a major way, so there will be plenty of photos for everyone! The engineers report etc should be in the mail, so far it hasn't arrived. Dratted public holidays. Until then, so many questions are unanswered, and we are waiting, waiting, waiting. Have flooring quote locked down, about to pay deposit, and have had an air-con quote that we are excited about too, so at least the house in my mind is taking shape! I emailed the office this morning when it wasn't in the post. Apparently it is still with the engineer. So much for getting it in 2 to 3 weeks. I am assured that it will be done next week. I just want to get it into council as I know that will take the longest time..... Patience, patience, patience for me I think. We signed the contract in early November, and received the engineers report early Feb. We wanted to get all the paperwork done before our loan pre-approval ran out, but because of the delay with the engineers report, that wasn't to be. Building definitely tests your patience. contract signed: Nov 09 Released to Construction: 23 Jul 10 Slab poured: 9 Aug 10 Frame completed: 30 Aug 10 Windows & Gutters: 7 Sep 10 Bricks: 15 - 23 Sep 10 Roof: 24 Sep 10 Gyprock: 20 Oct 10 Lockup: 25 Oct 10 Kitchen: 27 Oct 10 Tiling: 6 - 9 Nov 10 Painting: 17 Nov 10 Carpet: 30 Nov 10 PCI: 15 Dec 10 Handover: 17 Dec 10 https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=35943 Re: The Noodle Family - Preston in the Hills 17Mar 17, 2011 12:59 pm After all that, we have some progress to report today!
