Re: Building a Waldorf or Marriot by Porter Davis 8242Mar 07, 2016 3:05 pm Hello Everyone, It’s been a while since we posted on this forum, been busy dealing with hurdles after hurdles but looks like the dream house is not too far off now……….. Construction begins soon so we started our window shopping and would need some ideas from you experienced folks 1) Is there anyone who hasn’t put in a fireplace in the formal living are? What did you do instead. My other half says that there will be no focal point in that room without a fire place. I don't want to spend $$$ on fire place at this stage but also don't want the room to be boring. Any ideas?? 2) What furnishing did you guys install on a 4500 x 2400 stacker door in the family room. Doesn’t look like a curtain would work and blinds cost a fortune Feeling excited and can’t wait for it all to take shape…………..!!!!!! We put a white grand piano there, it was the whole reason we picked Waldorf, it's the perfect room for it! A fireplace would've been too close for comfort Quote: 2) What furnishing did you guys install on a 4500 x 2400 stacker door in the family room. Doesn’t look like a curtain would work and blinds cost a fortune We opted for sliding doors and have curtains. Speak to Zhan, he will give you a great price and hopefully some ideas too Good luck with your build!! Re: Building a Waldorf or Marriot by Porter Davis 8244Mar 07, 2016 11:34 pm Heyo yo! Just popping in to say hi. No one building waldorfs anymore? It's a year+ since I moved in to mine and it's been amazing in the new house. PD after care service has been exceptional. Didn't really need to fuss over the handover inspection because everything I missed was fixed at the 3 months stage. Even a year in, they have been super responsive. No complaints and would happily build again with PD (except for the fact they've discontinued the Marriot design). Couple of hind sights off the top, the internal ducted vacuum is a bit of waste of money. Would be better spent buying a couple of good Dysons instead. One upstairs and one downstairs. With the ducted vacuum, you still need to carry the long hose everywhere. Exhaust in the pantry would've been good. More power points... if you think you've put in enough, put in a couple more. Draw in a pool even if you don't intend to put one in. I changed my mind and had to pay $$$ to redirect plumbing. Ask where the gas pipe is being buried and make sure it is deep enough that you don't hit it. I have a sloping block and almost hit it digging out some of the front yard. That's it for now... I'll think of some more when I have time to revive my blog 'Remember not only to say the right thing in the right place, but far more difficult still, to leave unsaid the wrong thing at the tempting moment.' What did you do instead. My other half says that there will be no focal point in that room without a fire place. I don't want to spend $$$ on fire place at this stage but also don't want the room to be boring. Any ideas?? I liked the look of the fireplace but couldnt justify the costs involved just for something that looks good, really its would only be a visual as the ducted heating does most of the work. So i ended up putting in a electric fireplace like this http://www.jetmaster.com.au/product/ele ... tric-fire/ I recessed it into the wall so it flush mounted, only cost a $100 or so for the niche. Looks good as gives that fireplace feature effect. Re: Building a Waldorf or Marriot by Porter Davis 8246Mar 08, 2016 10:56 am Glad to see you're enjoying your Waldorf Sliick, we are too! You're luckier than us though, we found some minor issues but were told if they're weren't fixed in the 3 month maintenance, then bad luck!! Luckily they're only minor issues or ones we can live with. So overall still very happy, just hope nothing major happens. Re: Building a Waldorf or Marriot by Porter Davis 8247Mar 09, 2016 10:51 pm Thanks jackula and sogg.. Loved the idea of electric place will be stealing your idea.. Ground floor Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ First Floor Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ as you can see we did few modifications. Ground floor, extended the theater room by 600 mm and bulk head all around the ceiling. Removed the side window in theater room with back window. Family extension and custom size alfresco due to back side easement. one boutique stalker door instead of two sliding doors for the alfresco. First floor we are getting the WIR in place of Terrace and removed the WIR back of the Master bed. Instead getting the WIL. A couple of days after posting this, my garage door rail snapped off the support. Garage door guys coming to fix tomorrow. Hi yoyo72, It is costing us 6,000 to enclose the alfresco and terrace. We have converted the alfresco into a theatre by adding internal walls and terrace into a retreat and a WIR extension S&G World of Style - 6/8 and 7/8 Tender Appt. - 09/09/2015 Contract Appt. - 30/09/2015 Re: Building a Waldorf or Marriot by Porter Davis 8257Mar 23, 2016 3:12 pm sliick I closed off the terrace and put a custom alfresco in similar to yours too. Thanks for the advice Slick, actually we thought about it but it was going beyond our budget, that's why we didn't go for it. Re: Building a Waldorf or Marriot by Porter Davis 8259Mar 23, 2016 4:40 pm thanks everyone, thats way better than i expected....poor building consult at porter davis has only just really introduced herself and is copping flak from me already for not being able to find out costs, as it is a standard upgrade you'd think it would be easy. has anyone else done away with the lounge/study at the front? we are turning it into a guest bed and so are worried there will not be enough living spaces hence why we want to enclose the alfresco as we are going for the big alfresco out the back anyway so don't really need a side one too...least then ill have room for the pino and my home office... They are all the same colours as used in the Waldorf 48 at Berwick Waters. The WoS will have the build details, but if they can not find them for you, then please ask. Three options 1 Ask the liquidator 2 Find another PD customer and ask the source of their report 3 Pay for new report 3 12320 Thanks for your reply. I will just wait and see I guess.
